novice cross in/around NYC

anybody know anything about upcoming cross races in/around NYC? i looked at the ny state cross site, but most of those would require lots of travel as they are fairly far away. i don't have a car.

specifically, i'm looking for a race that might offer a "beginner" clinic of some sort; i have heard about races that do that towards the beginning of the season.

i don't think there is much around here. upstate, new jersey, and all over new england there are cross races. post back here if you do know of any. i would love to get involved as well.
