Hi there,
I have been riding/commuting on an old frame and inexpensive parts from ebay/craigslist/used-bins for a couple of years now and am finally going to bite the bullet and spend some money on a new bike.
I started with a triple and wound up with a singlespeed after parts started wearing out or just broke and the singlespeed is not working too well for the hills around my home. Either my gearing is too low for the downhill and fine for the uphill or vice versa, so I decided to go back to gears. I usually prefer riding on the road, but where I am living there are a ton of crappy roads and I also make frequent trips into the city on the bike path which has a section which is all gravel and roots. Hence my decision to look into a cross bike for the beefier wheels and room for fenders and such.
I found a 2007 Fuji Cross Comp at the Performance for 937$ with 105 all the way around (105 shifters and gearing compared to Tiagra shifters and from the 2006). Checking prices in the forum it seems that people are paying anywhere from $850 to a $1000 for the same bike with the $850 price being the 06 leftover models.
(spec list here: http://www.fujibikes.com/2007/bikes.asp?id=289&subcat=2)
Does the price seem fair for the bike itself?
Anybody have a 2007 Fuji Cross Comp yet and if so how do you like it?
One last question. I usually ride a 56cm road frame with the seat at the highest and a short handlebar stem as I prefer shorter top tubes but have long legs. What sizes should I look at when checking out a cross frame? I am 5'10" with 32" inseam.
