Milan-San Remo may undergo a significant change in the next few years (possibly 2004). There is a movement afoot to toughen up the climbs before the finish to make breakaway victories more likely.

Obviously riders like Cipollini oppose such changes, saying that there is nothing wrong with a sprinter winning a classic and too many classics already fit this proposed format.

Thoughts?

How about 2 courses that alternate every other year (one climbing and one for the sprinters.) That way we would see a different winner every year.

I´m no fan of changing courses. This race and others (e.g. Gent-Welvegem, Tour de Flandres, Paris-Roubaix) are classics and should not be changed to apparentlya make the race more interesting.

What makes a Classic is the fact that it reamins the same year to year. Milan-San Remo was originally a sprinters race and should remain the same.
