Framebuilders - Who still makes lugged steel frames?

Of course I know I can get a custom frame, but I was just wondering if there was any production shop doing lugged steel frames... how about Italian bikes?

Seems like there are a lot of Asian frames available, but how about American or European?

Rivendell does their frames in the US, and their production frames come from Osaka.

So who else out there still does lugged steel... and are they "affordable?" Let's draw the line at "affordable" at say one grand, eh?

Waterford makes a nice, albeit expensive, frameset. They will make it to your specs no extra charge. Heron, made by Waterford, makes beautiful frames also. The Herons have limited colors and sizing options though. If you hunt around, you will probably find quite a few mfgs. Try posting in the Road forum.

Heron may be the best value in a lugged frame these days. Are they still made by Waterford? For some reason I thought they switched.

They are still made at the Waterford factory. I own Heron and have no plans to move manufacturing off-shore.

Ahhh, nothing like a nice lugged frame to get the juices flowing.

Heron looked nice, Vanilla looked grand, and Sachs are to dream about.
