Fifty Plus (50+) - What In The World Are We Going to Do...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

to get through this winter? We have had freezing temps up here in MinneSNOWta for the past three days. Okay, we have cold weather gear and can deal with the cold temps. We have the indoor trainers and a boat-load of spinnervals, but please...how in the world do you get a ride in with freezing temps and 40 mph winds to boot? It is only October. Come on mother nature, give us cyclists a break!!!

It has been three long days since Cheese and I have been able to get out and ride. *sigh* On the positive side it looks like this weekend will be good for riding. Hope we can get in some nice loooooong rides.

Anyone else having cycling wihtdrawl yet? What is your game-plan to get through, what appears to be, a Winter that is shaping up to be very long?

Linda (dreaming of a very long ride tomorrow)

you live in Minnesota fer christsakes.
When I used to travel regularly to Minneapolis, the locals joked about Minnesota's 4 seasons -- June, July, Aug & Winter.

Know what they do during the Summer in Minnesota?

If it comes on a weekend they usually go swimming.

NO! That's a really bad idea. Florida is a terrible place. Stay up there among God's Frozen People.

I was in Minnesota for a week in July, and it was over 100 deg F every day, with 90% humidiity.

AH-HA! This explains why we see so many of those Florida license plates up here in the summer months.:)

Trust me...the temptation is *larger than life*. We have a 27ft travel trailer, sell the house, quit the jobs, work meaningless day jobs for some spending cash, and ride the bike all day long! Ooooh, HERE IS AN IDEA.... We could work at Starbucks and pie shops! - live down in the Southern states for the winter months - Ahhhh....a modern day cycling Gypsy

Hey, now there is an idea! Denver sounds nice and we could work on some major hills and get in some pretty darn good descents too!

Do you have an RV hook up at your house? :D

We could invite the Diego clan too and have a big biker party at Dnvr's!

Just bundle up and ride...... One of my best rides ever was last december, it was about 12 F when I left the house on a bright crisp Sunday morning......I rode for about an hour and a half and loved every second of it.

Covenants, you know!

But for the right price, we have a nifty finished basement. (But what about my home gym and office?)

My wife attended a women-only excursion last Jan in Duluth. They did cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and rode dog sleds. From what I've heard, the X-country business is and excellent activity for fitness and recreation. Of course, I wouldn't know about these things - I did 53 miles this morning:D.

You can come to Florida in the winter but you have to learn French. English is the third language in winter, Spanish first then Quebec French.

BTW - I spent some time in the land of 10,000 lakes, my moms family is from Pease. I refuse to live anywhere you have to plug your car in to keep it warm enough to start.

We used to have harsh winters and now we have poor summers. Winter I would expect to be mild except for about 3 months when the temp does not get above 40 deg. Then we have the summers when it is in the 90's continually or monsoon type weather. Incidentally- September and October have been not too bad. Just can't wait for what November may throw at us. Probably cool nights in the 40's and Days in the low 60's. Then it will start with the frost's and a bit of white stuff falling occasionally. Time to get offroad so I do not find the Black Ice.

I feel your pain ... here in Northern California it was down in the mid-50's when I left for my ride this morning -- and OVERCAST!! My God, it was horrible .... I almost put on a windbreaker. :D

I grew up in Minnesota ... that's why I now live out here ...

Still going to referee some hockey games tonight, but I can CHOOSE when to get my ice ...

Florida is a terrible place. Tomorrow morning in Gainesville is is supposed to be 48F. I will have to get out the leg warmers for my sunrise ride. Just brutal weather.

I just finished building a "Snow Cycle!" Go over to Classic and Vintage to read and see more. Just click here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=237130

I plan to ride this winter on snow packed roads and snow mobile trails. I will not spend another entire winter only in the attic on the trainer. NO! NO! NO!
