So maybe I came in on the shortbus cuz' I searched for "gloves" threads and came up with nothing. I need some new gloves that offer good padding, full finger preferably. There are some Pearl Izumi that I've seen that have a good amount of padding and liked a lot. So those of you who rock or have reccomendatins/links for full finger gloves sound off por favor!

Probably the most popular and best no-frills full finger glove: Answer Impact. I like it myself. It's for spring/autumn, when it's just a bit too chilly for bare hands. Not much in the way of padding, though.

Red, blue and gray also available.

I use the same thing for MTB, only 661 makes them. Called the "Raji":

I'm guessing since you're in San Diego, we're not talking winter gloves.
So here's my favorite spring/autumn not warm enough for bare hands glove.

Gel paddy palmy things, to boot.
you can either buy those izumis/[insert any inferior glove label here] and buy raphas afterwards
or you can just buy the raphas
i mean, i hate mysef pretty much but not enough to wear sh1te for gloves

haha, I would not be caught dead wearing that crap.
REI has a pretty wide selection, including Cannondale, Fox, Descente, and PI, as well as their house brand. I've got an older pair, REI label that I like fine when it's too cool for fingerless.
haha, I would not be caught dead wearing that crap.
who's the fashion victim here then? i've used both, have you? izumis lasted less than a month, 30 EUR down the drain.
i'll prefer function over cool points. in this case rapha(read: leather) delivers, canvas doesn't. pretty simple..
should be mentioned though, mine are the 65 EUR ones not the 135 EUR which, no doubt, is overpricing/consequence of the use of unnecessary expensive leather.
bottom line for OP, buy quality leather gloves.. like you would on a motorcycle.

Leather biking gloves for function? Sorry, that's new to me...

Nike winter cycling gloves with the tacky palm and index finger. They are the best I've ever owned (or even tried on for that matter.). They are wind and water resistant. Plus they are thin and pretty low-profile so you don't have to remove them to stick your hand in pockets or bags and whatnot. Still warm as you would expect, but hands don't sweat.
Plus, they don't look all crazy. They are all black with a white swoosh. I wear them as regular winter gloves and have actually gotten compliments. I know people who don't cycle that wear them.
The palm and first two fingers are very tacky for gripping handle bars and brake levers/shifters.
I wore mine all last winter and they look almost new after several months of use.
Around $40-50. Pricey but worth it.

EDIT:
Also, the velcro closure is high up your wrist. If you were wearing a watch, it would cover it. This is cool because there is no gap between your glove and sleeve for wind to get in.
I'm typing with them on right now (I'm such a geek)

i figured out that already but.. how about durability, especially at full speed crashes. how about perfect fit? How about superior grip?
how about the extra gay points you get with these?
http://rapha.cc/images/products/criterium_gallery_1.jpg
they're also the only gloves i've had that allow using cloth tape.
then again, i'm just bitter because i'm not loaded enough to bother with buying low quality shlte.

$83 (http://rapha.cc/index.php?page=42) buy them tight because they will strech.
use this sizer

The Nike Gloves are $45 on http://www.nike.com/nikecycling/ and TrekBikes.com (http://store.trekbikes.com/jump.jsp?itemID=158&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1,2,27,244&iProductID=158&bShopOnline=1)
- Thermal windproof fabric
- Velcro brand wrist closure wide enough to close with a gloved hand, but flat enough to fit under jacket sleeves
- Palm patch provides good gripping surface in all riding conditions"
It looks like they got rid of the tacky on the fingertips for this year's model.

sooo, how are those tan circles on the front of your hand working out for you?
Pearl Izumi Carbon Pittards. Try some on at your LBS, find the one that fits nicely (not too snug, easy enough to get off) and buy the next size down. They'll stretch with use, and then shrink a bit after washing. Oh, and don't use liner gloves with your half-fingers that you'll want in the summer - they stretch your gloves like no other. Trust me on this one.

Pearl Izumi is def my favorite, but if I had the coin I would go with the raphas in a heartbeat. Like a crappy bib or pair of shorts, gloves are one of the most easily noticed points of clothing discomfort for me. It's worth it to pay the extra dough and get something that you can wear for many miles and not notice.

give me some sunshine first and i'll tell you how little i care.

nice but the thing with raphas is that they feel like second skin instead of gloves because they'll stretch out to the shape of your hands

Thanks!
Find a shop that carries Trek (they have them here in Bermuda). Nike and Trek have some sort of deal going on. So, any bike shop that carries Trek will also be able to order Nike clothing and accessories.

if i knew the raphas would last for at least a couple years i'd buy some. i go through lycra ones like every couple months. i've had various PI's, castellis, retro crotchet ones, they all come apart after a month or two, usually at the seams on the fingers. then they look like old hobo gloves in the cartoons. my bike gloves also seem to be one of the most coveted items for my dog to chew up. this doesn't help either.

word. couldn't see how much the tanabes were. any idea?
They're about 115 EUR but if you want my opinion, again as someone who's actually worn them instead of just dissing them on the intardwebs with no clue, then..
They're pure sex on the hands, true, but they're made of _very_ thin and refined leather. No padding but the grip is indescriptible. Since they're keirin gloves, the backside is obviously well protected but one palms down crash on the street and they're done, probably in the midway of your asphalt slide.
Not to even mention the fact they start getting dirty just by looking at their direction. Still, the full white ones look a lot better.
In short, they're designed track racers in mind who wear them for 30 mins once a week.
Go for full finger raphas for the street if you're looking to spend that much on gloves.

2 years? easily.
time to count how many raphas you could have had and then repent.
as for the dog, i recommend this recipe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2FTMj-3kcg)

WARNING on this link. Don't click it unless you want to see a dog being butchered. Wasn't something I was expecting on a glove thread, then again, this is the SS & FG forum...
Wasn't something I was expecting on a glove thread
Well.. he could always make the gloves out of his dog. How's that for irony?
Disclaimer from the end translated:
"Shocked? Think about that while you're tucking in the mass produced pig that lived its whole life in a cage or the broiler chicken fattened in claustrophobic conditions. The dog you just saw lived free."
How's that for double standards?
Sorry, no funny picture of a dog in my courier bag coming from me. Sob sob.

touche!
I was checking out the new EAI "track gloves" today. They look pretty sweet. Black or tan, crocheted with a decent amount of padding. I'm not sure what makes them track gloves. To me they just look like a very classic cycling glove.

+5 reward to anyone who can show me a pic of a pair of raphas where the little circles actually sit over the wearer's knuckle bulges like they're supposed to. Gotta love people paying 3x too much for poorly designed stuff with the right label on it.

despite my ubermanly knuckles, i'm quite pleased with the positioning.. notice that these are not fully stretched gloves either, but they're comfy as **** already.
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2276/bareknuckleym6.jpg
but you're right, all pictures i've seen including the promotional ones are of gloves that don't fit correctly.. you're supposed to buy them so tight they'll make your knuckles bleed wearing them the first time.
here's an example of WRONG WRONG WRONG supplied by Random Fat Bastard ™ & Google.. and you thought the dog clip was bad..

so rest assured.. it's the people that are poorly designed, not the gloves.

Ok, but you're making a full fist there. Unless your bars are 3/8" rebar risers or something, that's neither the degree of hand closure nor the wrist orientation for actual riding.
Whatever, I'm never buying a pair, just saying...
Whatever
ditto. the fist is relaxed.
where can i collect my +5 points?
