Calories in calories out is an oversimplification and can get newbie’s into problems this would not be a problem for you but could be a pitfall for many people on the board and really it is them we should be trying to present data to.

I disagree...I think many people, especially newbies, overcomplicate the issues surrounding weight loss and get into trouble that way. They get all tangled up in Low-GI, Atkins, South Beach, etc., etc. looking for that "magic bullet".

They run around in circles look for that "special movie star diet", or "amazing exercise discoveries of the Aztecs", or "secret Asian formula" pills, etc., etc., etc. When all they really have to do is eat a little less and/or move a little more each day.

It's not rocket science, but I guess most folks don't want to hear that it's as simple as it is...and that message doesn't sell books, meal plans, pills, workout videos, etc.

Some of the above posts are spinning out into the twilight zone so let’s have a little recap for the impatient who cannot read the entire post.

What I am advocating is this
Eat fruit, nuts, meat, and vegetables.

I mean come on this is not fad or low carb it is just common sense really. If you want Gatorade, donuts, bread, protein bars and whatever else the marketing people at craft want to sell you and you like to eat it go for it, it is just a choice and there is no right or wrong it is just personal preference. I like to ride my bike fast in traffic it is a calculated risk one I am willing to take because I enjoy it.

Cheers

No it does not seem like a fad, but when a label is put on it to sell books it makes it look like a fad. As well some people may not be able to accept that one can be different than they are and still lead a healthy life. When what you do is validated by other people it makes you feel good. Then when somebody says think about it for a second, they may not be so happy.

I still like my ice cream every now and then.

Great point soc, I think the label has been the biggest hurdle.
