Any mma fans out there. I'm freaking sad that rich lost to anderson silva. Silva freaking dominated him. It's going to be interesting for the ufc now that rich, the ufc posterboy has now been replaced by a fighter who barely even speaks english as the middleweight champion.

FYI- this isn't a photoshopped pic. He really did get his nose bent after silva kneed his face.

Thats great. I hate domination, its just plain annoying. It allows for people to stagnate, which may well be what happened. Rich is a cocky sob who thought he was untouchable. The greatest champions are usually the ones who have been humbled a few times.

Besides, it makes for better TV. Rich continuing to win doesn't help ratings like a good comeback fight. Rich loosing is only gonna help keep a lot of viewers interested. I know I stopped watching rich, whats the point, 99% of the time he was gonna win. They just finally found someone to spank him good...

Yea they found a world class fighter. Many people were skeptical about giving silva a title shot after the 1 win against leban, he definitely proved himself. The only problem for the ufc is the fact rich was the poster boy, as well as a walking advertisement for xyience.

and to the people- rich's nose really was that bent. Silva kneed his face extremely hard, then high kicked his face.

Also- this is MMA(mixed martial arts) fighting for those of you who are unfamiliar.

Look how happy dana was after silva took the belt (LOL he's pissed)

Yea too many people posted it, and imageshack couldn't support the image anymore. I can't find it now. I was going to post the .gif of the knockout people had posted before and the pic, now both are freaking gone from the site.

No, but for a champion he should have known thoroughly how to defend a clinch. It's a typical thing in the ufc.

I've seen rich use it to knee people into sleep, so he knows what it is.

Silva kind of puts ufc in its place. Rich was supposed to be decent in the clinch...he looked like a little boy being beaten.

I still think Dana is seeing the potential. Rematches is where the money is at. Poster boy or not. Thats *IF* rich can even get a real shot into Silva next time.

The sad part is that lots of people were in the false belief of thinking rich was unstoppable. He has been a very dominant fighter, and he did seem out of it or something because silva schooled him. All he did was have him in the clench and knee franklin. Franklin should have attempted a take down or something.

Personally, I think rich should have to earn his way back up to fight silva again. Prove his worth, because this fight was pathetic. I still love him as a fighter though, just disapointed.

I was pretty sure, by the vid, franklin wasn't strong enough to even attempt a take down. Silva through him against the fence like he was a small child. I think he went in overconfident and unaware. Fighting a mui tai fighter and the first move actually attempted succeeded. Its obvious he is used to dealing with the shoot and grind style ufc is famous for...mui tai is the opposite. Regardless of the broken nose, those knees to the ribs, kidney, stomach and chest were hurting him badly. With or without the broken nose, unless Rich had gotten lucky, silva would have caused some serious damage over the length of the fight.

Then again, silva might add some international credibility to ufc. Something beyond the typical "glorified boxer" or "bump and grind" fighter is a good thing, and makes it a little more interesting.

I agree, rich needs to earn it. And I am sure he will. There really was no one else to stand up to him, unless they start bringing in more skilled fighters from the east, Franklin will be back quickly...make in something called redemption or revenge. I am sure Dana will come up with a creative name for fight number 2.

You're right. The ufc is typical of the "brawl" style fighting. The wide sloppy punches that are thrown are typical of lidell and rich. On the other hand, if you saw the silva vs leban match, you will understand that silva's style of fighting is much more crisp. His punches are thrown with great exucution, and overall he is an amazing fighter. So, I'd definitely agree some more variety in the current ufc, as far as new styles of fighting from different parts of the world would be a good thing. Of course it'd force people like rich to step up their game.

I think alot of the new fighters coming in, and lots of the current fighters are all versed in the same style of fighting. Wrestling, brawling, boxing, kicking, submissions, etc. It for me is getting so old to watch. Especially those matches where all 3 rounds the fight takes place on the ground with not much action going on.

I'm looking forward to the GSP v Hughes fight in ufc 65. That will be exciting.

On a further note, I think I'll be buying this shirt off tito's site.

I do not believe that Liddell is a sloppy fighter at all. Personally, I think he would have matched up well with Wandy, who has the same style of fighting.

As for Rich, I think it was just his time. He was 20-1 without fighting any one of real caliberSadly, the man was coming off a 7 month lay off. I'm not making excuses for him but can he get a tune up fight? Silva is a monster but I do not see him being champ very long. I think the MW divison is stacked with competition. Swick is making a name for himself (I don't think he can beat Silva at this point), Marquet (sp?) is strong, along with Matt Lindland who I think has the best chance of taking out Silva. Side note, Matt Hughes says in his blog that if rich lost he would step up and I'd love to see this fight. Matt matches up great with Silva in that he can take him down any time he wants to. However, if Matt decides to stand, which for whatever reason he likes to do lately, he will get his face bashed in.

Guys I'd love to continue talking about this but another website forum, which shall remain nameless, has devolved into a flaming match with EVERY single post. So if we can have some constructive insight into everyones views great, lets keep it up. If not, I don't want to be part of it.

Hah. I joined them last night. The biggest thing that annoys me besides, the constant rudeness and cussing that all the kiddies display towards eachother, is the fact that every subject there is over 5 topics made. People just keep making the same topics. It pisses me off.

I never said lidell was a sloppy fighter. I said he throws wide, brawl style punches. Which I consider sloppy. As for silva, if hughes went up to fight him, I think hughes could take him. Of course, the ol' take down submission/ ground and pound strategy is getting real boring.

hahahaha. Oh thats the greatest, some folks think that pride is the best and UFC is less than superb. You are right, who cares. Fighters are fighters. It doesn't matter which program their contract is locked into, they make moola and they fight.

Thats kind of like saying the CFL and NFL are equals since they all play the same game. I don't fight in either, I don't want to, but if the calibre of fighting is different than ufc would in fact be sub par. CFL while football, is garbage league compared to NFL, heck even compared to a lot of the ncaa.

Ground and pound reminds me of blue line hockey used in the mid 90's. It works, its effective, it sucks ass to watch over and over again. Hockey virtually eliminated blue line hockey and the game, for the 1st time in 15 years, looks almost like good hockey (I still hate the current rendition) UFC might have to consider applying the stand up and fight rule a little more often.
