I have quite a few bikes, but make no mistake - most of what I turn up in the Catch of the Day thread is sold on. Currently, I've a 50's Cantiflex HR Bates, a 70's Falcon Westminster, and 80's Nigel Dean frame that I'm building up fixed, an 80's Gazelle Trim Trophy, an 80's Raleigh Royal tourer (my workhorse), and a 90's EG Bates Track bike. I've been thinking about what I would buy in a second, and what I'd be tempted by.
Definites:
These are the bikes I'd buy on sight
A Coventry Eagle Kermesse - this was my first proper road bike, from 83. 531, Gippieme groupset, Rigida 700 x 21 rims. Not a truly great bike, but mine was stolen, and I'd really like one again!
A 70's Clements. These were not, I believe, Ernie Clements bikes, but built by his brother. I had one, it got left somewhere, and before I could pick it up (years later), it got thrown in the skip. Boo!
A Rotrax. They're my local builder, only recently shut down. I'd like either a full on roadie, or a track bike, with the most outrageous lugs imagineable. It should be a 60's one too, since I have nothing from that decade.
A Raleigh Record Sprint. This doesn't fit at all - it's not from a small handbuilder, it's not even top end for a Raleigh. They were 501 framed, mid range components, BUT, they were all black and gold, and I lusted after one when I was a kid. They still look good now. Maybe partnered with a Raleigh Super Burner (gold chrome frame, with black or gold everything else!)?
Nice to Have:
These are things I'd have trouble resisting, but I might try
A real 50's Ernie Clements, from his little shop pre Falcon. I've seen one, and it was gorgeous, but I restisted dropping £300 on it!
A Gitane Tour De France, or a Gitane Track - sweet
A top end Mercier, like the pink one that's in that bicycle museum. Saw one in a book when I was a lad, and wanted one ever since.
An Ephgrave - gorgeous.

Dammit, a lot of these are things I've lusted after since I was 13 aren't they? Adult wish fulfillment?

I'd like an early sixties Schwinn Superior, and maybe a pristine early Lambert that still has the Death Fork. No, I wouldn't ride it with the Death Fork.

Right now I am on the search for about anything affordable with internal gears made in Nottingham, preferable 1970 or earlier:p The bad part is I want/need 23" frame size. And they are much harder to come by than the 19" and 21". I keep seeing these guys with Raleigh Supurbes that look like they just came off the LBS floor, that they picked up at a garage sale for $50...where the H*LL are those? I spent the entire day yesterday on a thrift store/yard sale run and didn't score a single thing. One guy had some Schwinns but he wanted a minium of $75 a piece and most of them weren't worth $30 (rusty, dry rotted tires, bent rims, torn seats, etc) Most of what I have been seeing are the Wallymart Next line stuff for $25...

A Schwinn Volare. A Japanese-built 531 db frame with fancy chrome lugs and full Dura-Ace. Much more rare than a Paramount.

I get where you're coming from with the Record Sprint. The black & gold comination looked great. Possibly helped in the '80s by the prominence of the JPS Lotus F1 car in a similar colour scheme. From about 1985 Raleigh did a Team Replica frame (white with blue, red & yellow) but with the white replaced with chrome. That looked amazing. Perhaps the only way to get that now would be to get a Raleigh 531 frame and do the rest yourself.

Hetchins, Hellenic stayed one
'71 Colnago (before the graphics changed is the reason, in Electric blue please)
but that would push the total to 30, so some would have to go to make room.
56cm or 22" ctt, is the size range if anyone has one...

I don't know if MTBs count. I'd essentially love to have the entire collection from First Flight Bikes (http://www.firstflightbikes.com/atb.htm).
I'm a sucker for Richard Cunningham designed MTBs so I'd like another 1990 Nishiki Ariel like the one I stupidly gave away.

The 1990 Nishiki AlienACX (the bike I really wanted but couldn't afford when I bought my Ariel)

The Mantis Flying V

The bike that that inspired the Nishiki Alien series... the Mantis XCR (which I also couldn't afford)

But the one bike I've always lusted after was the very rare Mantis Screaming V

Other bikes include the 1993 Bridgestone MB-1 with the Ritchey bi-plane crown fork

1990 Ritchey Ultra or Ritchey P-21

1973(?) Viscount aerospace Pro with death fork (and I will ride it)

A 70's Masi.
Quite a big choice range.
the 70's started the Masi Gran Criterium, original with unique graphics, look at the '71 Masi on auction onw on ebay by Richard Sachs. Second design graphics arrived somewhere in 1972, and continued the same for quite a while.
In late '73 Masi's came from two facilities, Carlsbad and Milano.
'74 or '75 Milan started the Prestige, in addition to the GC.
And that's just the big swash at the variations, so, to cover Masi in the 70's you need quite a few.
But one can never have too many.

*An all-chrome track frame with minimal decals (if I had this, I could care less about anything below!)
*An original Nottingham-made, black Raleigh Competition frame
*A post-'77, red, Raleigh Super Course with proper, forged Suntour GS dropouts (built in derailer hanger)
*An understated English roadbike frameset (an early Dave Moulton, perhaps?) suitable for a Super Record groupset
*As a substitute for a Dave Moulton, an Eddy Merckx in candy-apple red, same as the one in this picture: http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=27364&d=1160923796
And for anyone curious, my size is 23"-23.5" ;)

-Early to mid 90s touring frame still lugged but with thicker diameter tubes, a 25" in excellent condition.
-1960s Cinelli Super Course
-Early 70s Masi
-That 50th anniversary group de rosa that cycle art has/had for sale
-schwinn paramount track bike (or sammy boy's bates track bike)
-Brand new Richard Sachs made just for me
-an early hetchins (in my size) with curly stays for sure would make most of the above very much less significant

I'm not sure any more. The lust is cooling off a bit - at least for now. I might consider a '77-'81 Raleigh Team Professional. Might consider a more pedigreed randoneurring bicycle to eventually upgrade from my Miyata 210. A Casati would be a really nice addition. I don't have an Italian bicycle yet - unless you consider the Raleigh Professional to be an Italian tribute bicycle. ;)

A Raleigh Lenton Tourist circa 1951

I would not consider the Raleigh Professional to be a good Italian road bike surrogate, get a 'nago, DeRosa or a Masi, oh, yeah a Bianchi would do as well. Pinarello gained popularity as the Italians moved away from the "traditional" geometry, nice bike but 80's Italian even in the 70's, so a bit ahead of its time. Same with Grandis, Moser & Rossin. I left out Pogiaghi as they have gotten very pricey for the Sante produced examples. An older Cinelli of course would be nice.
For reference, the Raleigh Pro, had a higher BB than was Italian typical, and while it had a fully sloping crown as some Italian bikes had, the fastback seat stay treatment is English, with a capital E, at least back then, also depending on the size the top tubes did not scale up in enough increments.

I'm easy to please.....
I'd like a decent quality Italian frame in 56cm, brand not too important, but obscure marquees would get preference. Something made out of good steel, that I can re-space to 130mm and build up with modern (Campy) components.
Just about any color, but some variation of blue would be considered a plus.

A blue 1979 Schwinn LeTour IV... just because it was my first road bike. I think I would prefer 22" to the original 23" I had, my stepover seems to be decreasing. ;)
An old 24" cantilever framed bike with 26 X 1 3/8 3 speed wheels. The rear brake bridge was bent slightly to allow the over-sized tires to fit. It has a double top tube with a single under it (the opposite of the Schwinn configuration) a tan banana seat, rams horn bars and both hand brakes hooked up to the back wheel. Last seen in a primer gray and rust color scheme. I never saw it again after I left Tacoma Washington in the summer of 1975 to go to boot camp. If anyone sees it, we have a history and I would love to get back together.
A new home for a couple of my not so classic bikes... :D

1969, that is the year I bought myself a Schwinn Sting-Ray to replace the one stolen 2 years before that my parents would not replace. Boy, was I aware of inflation, as the price rose quite a bit as I was saving. Especially right before price controls went into effect... remember the Nixon adm.?
For Christmas 1970 I think it was, could have been '71, I got The Complete Book of Bicycling by Eugene Sloane, that started my saving for a bike with as much Campagnolo as possible, 531 DB tubing and Nervex lugs...
The early Raleigh Pro's indeed were different, but production really ramped up with the more common second design, which is the more well known style. Even with that bike though, I do not think the BB drop was in the 75mm range as many Italian bikes had at the time.

A Raleigh Team track bike. I thought I'd found one but the owner was not willing to sell. Now I must have it.
A Soviet Team road bike. I believe they rode Masis.
An '85 Schwinn World Sport in ice blue. It was a high school graduation present from my folks and I rode it all through college and law school. It was stolen due to my own drunken stupidity. Or is it stupid drunkenness?
Colnago Master Piu with Columbus Gilco tubing and chrome lugs.
Late 1960s Paramount P-14 in orange (or white! or black! or chrome!) with chrome lugs. Nervex Pro lugs with Prugnat BB shell, preferably.
Early 1980s Nagasawa track with gothic "N" pantographed fork crown, Nakano red.
