I decided to take the Shimano biopace chainrings off my regular road bike & swap them for the old 105 ones on the rain/tourer Im building, just for a trial, Wow, although they`r the same size 52/42 the differance is amazing, average speed up 5kph & the whole bike seems livelier, even though Im not a competative cyclist, I must have out-grown the biopace as I quite liked it when I got the bike.
I went for a 60k ride through our Papamoa hills after the swap & it was realy good but I suffered acheing legs the next day , so the way biopace works the muscles must be slightly different ?
Now I dont realy want to put them on my other bike:(
Anybody want to swap their round c/rings for a set biopace ??:D :D

How old is this bike? I had Biopace rings on a Panasonic bike I got back in the early to mid 80"s. I could never understand the hype.

I have two bikes with biopace, a road bike from the 80's and a mtn. bike from the early 90's. I recently bought a bike without and like it much better. I too saw the speed jump considerably. Want to switch the mtn. bike gearing one of these days.

Yeah I had Bio-pace on my early 90's 6 speed Centurion... took them off, bought some ultegra rings.. also had to change the chain from a 6 speed to a 7 speed... made everything much much smoother.... yeah I can go a whole lot faster and smoother with rounders

Biopace was just lik emany things Shimano makes 'junk'. They always oush this and people buy. However Biopace was not a choice for many.
If Biopace rings were as good as they claimed we would all be using these now.
Shimano doesn't stop there. Now look at the new XTR levers. Many hate them to buy them as they are told are required with all XTR. Basicly Shimano's Total Integration. Just wording to make you think you need all Shimano.
Interesting. I've been putting up with Biopace for about 6 years, initially because I didn't want to spend the money on new rings and now because I have a new bike on the way.
Is this speed increase of 5km/h typical for people making the switch? I'm tempted to go and spend some money just to see what the difference is on the old bike.

I don;t know if it is Typical Ants.. but I will tell you.. after "the switch" your spin will be smoother,a nd it seems liek i get better power output all around, instead of the lumpy feeling Bio-pace... of course.. if you;ve been riding biopace for 6 years and nothing is wrong... you have nothing to compare too.... it's like me and my MTB.. no suspension, and pepel look at me like i'm nuts when I'm out there rippin' it up... but i've never ridden a bike with suspension.. so i don;t know what i'm missin'
Jeff
Right-oh then. Biopace definitely feels lumpy - I'm off to the bike shop!

I had a biopace chainring back then, it just destroyed my knees,
Okay, new Tioga brand round chainrings are about 50-55 pathetic Australian dollars each. Does that sound reasonable?
