Fifty Plus (50+) - OK, I found one good thing about winter....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife (the eternal optomist) pointed out that I won't have to mow the lawn for several months.....
(this is a very small comfort, but I'll give her one...)
I'll gladly keep mowing the lawn to avoid winter. My wife has tried that logic on me too. I've politely asked her to mind her own darn business.... I'll be miserable in winter if I want to, and don't appreciate someone trying to fool me into being otherwise!

even here in central Texas we don't have to mow more than once a month during our 'winter' so you go right ahead and feel miserable about the freezing temps and snow and ice and black ice and short days and freezing hands & feet and shoveling snow and and and...:D

I don't have to mow my lawns during the winter either, but I do have to shovel the snow off my driveway.

This may sound a bit sick but what I like about winter riding is what it does for me in the spring. By having to wear much more clothing and deal with the cold and wind my average miles per hour go way down, I have to work a lot harder to ride the same routes. Come spring and summer those same routes get a lot faster. Now with respect to winter in general, I agree with all, can't find much good to say about it.

Agreed. I might even mow yours, too. I hate winter.
But don't forget raking leaves. With my trees, I dread that more than mowing.
And to add insult to injury, for a while (starting about now) I will have to mow the
grass before I can rake leaves. At least that doesn't last too long.

One good thing about winter: stopping in after a gray day ride when I can't feel the end of my nose so good anymore and leaning the bike against the window at The Bagel Dump for a hot mocha ...............and then home to a long, hot, steaming shower. Followed by warm breakfast. Winter need not be purely horrible.
Let me see. Mowing 2 plus acres of grass or clearing snow off 150 feet of driveway. Hmm, almost seems a toss up. Forget raking. Homie don't do that.
Right now I don't hate winter. Ask me in Feburary. I will most likely have changed my mind.

I live in a Condo...don't have to mow, rake, shovel, etc. Of course I have to pay for that privilege.

Just a couple of reminders.....
Well, my wife does the (what passes for) grass, the %^@# leaves are a joint effort, I shovel the 100 ft driveway. All cold weather means is that it's time to put pants on.

For me, biking and winter do not go together well. Example:
I go on this 50 mile ride. Starts out at 40 degrees. Very strong and cold headwind. I have four layers of clothes. Biking against this wind (storm) at 15 MPH average and huffing puffing. At half way point the temperature goes to 55. The wind is now from the back. I go like banshee out of hell and was soaking wet from sweat. Had no bags to shed layers. Chilled out from cold sweat. Felt miserable for a day.
I hate cold weather and we have too much of it here. I will take a serious look at northern Florida soon.
