In case anybody noticed I was not here as much as I might normally be over the weekend, it is because I spent the weekend with my grandfather.

My grandparents are getting pretty old. Grandpa just turned 80 a few months ago and he's not always doing so well (two strokes and a heart attack last year, one or two hospital visits this year). The poor guy is the patriarch of our family and probably won't be around much longer. He's just sort of in that waiting around to die frame of mind. I hope when he does go, he'll go quick and peacefully.

His wife, my grandmother is out of town for the weekend as my brother is taking her to North Carolina for a sort of impromptu reunion with her sisters. My grandmother (81) is has kind of been in beginning stages of Alzheimer's for a few years and probably in another few won't be able to really remember much or appreciate a reunion with her sisters like that, so my brother really wanted to make sure she got to go. I'm glad grandma got to go too.

Since grandpa really can't be left by himself, I went up to stay with him over the weekend. All went relatively well.....my cousin was also there, and I think her crying 7 month old was getting to him....I did remind her that he probably hasn't had a baby in the house (for any length of time) in about 50-60 years, so cut him some slack.

Anyway.....not sure what I wanted to say....just ranting a bit I guess.

I hope my grandson comes and stays with me when I'm 80 yrs old. (By the way, my grandson is just a glimmer in my son's eye.):)

Well I looked on the computer and this is the only pic I can find to show youz guyz.

It's over years old (from the re-marriage my mom put together for them on their 50th anniversary).

KT - this throws a wrench in the Foo family thing KT. If you're my little brother, how is your grandfather younger then my (late) father? :)

Good to see you appreciate and respect your elders. Strokes are the most insidious of killers - especially if you don't identify them early. :(

It's great that you're spending time with your grandparents. My grandmother turned 100 in May, and though the whole family gathered to celebrate, it was really very bittersweet. It was so hard to tell if she really knew what was going on... a good friend of hers noted that she had always been such a gracious hostess, that even if she had no idea who you were, she'd never let on. It's been so hard to keep up all my family connections on the other side of the world, and I really regret not spending more time talking to her earlier. My parents phone her every week, and it's now a real struggle to talk to her on the phone.

Just two years ago, I spent a few days with my grandmother at her old house on my way back from Toronto -- just the two of us and the lady who helped her. It was a wonderful visit; she was in high spirits and talking about her travels all around the world in the 50s and 60s. I just wish I could have had more visits like that with her.

Not sure what I'm trying to say either. I think it's this: Good on you, KT.
