All I can say was IT WAS COLD!!!!!!!!
I was in Fort Wayne for the weekend for a wedding and did a 30 mile ride with my aunt before the wedding.
Wind 15-25 mph, temp 26ºF, wind chill was 13.3º, not allowing for our speed into it, factor that in and you get a windchill at our max speed DH into the wind of 36.5 and you get this!
36.5 + 25= 61.5 mph combined total between wind and us
This translated to a wind chill of 7.2ºF! Yikes! No wonder my knees hurt and I got a headache from Hades!
It was truly a death march with an average speed of 18-20 mph. I wasn't really prepared for the weather, I've lost a lot of weight this year and I found out I can't handle the cold as well, less insulation! We held this pace trying to keep warm and found out that yes, we burned energy and stayed warmer than riding slower, but the caloric output was incredible, burning 4700 calories according to the calculator I used!
I would have gotten pics, but my camera batteries froze!
