Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Has anyone tried the Milwaukee track cog?

These popped up on eBay this week and I'm wondering
if anyone has already checked them out, or maybe has
some inside word on their quality. The price certainly
is right.

why not just get a Euro-Asia or Dura-Ace one for about the same price. Ben's Cycle was pretty nice to me when I went there, and I've heard that these cogs along with their hubs are from another company, but just re-branded.

I've only got about 6-miles on mine (installed it later last week). Will start 20-miles per day on the commuter this week. Looks just-OK so far.

they're actually made in taiwan. i emailed them to ask who manufactured them, and they said "a reputable taiwanese company".

even though I would not give them dollar 1, to their credit, they changed the "NJS Certified" claim on their doublestraps when it was brought to their attention.

he was talking about a HUB, NOT the COG. i would hope they wouldn't go so far as to print made in usa on something the made in taiwan. i think editing his post may clear up a lot of confusion.

More like the Nashbar/Soma. They are nice enough hubs. I got mine from Nashbar for $15, so although the price is competitive, it's certainly not a great deal.

Where do you find Dura-Ace or EAI cogs for $20? I've never
seen an EAI for less than around $29, and that's usually pretty
cheap.

I'm sure it's a re-branded something, but I don't see that as

Yes, upon closer inspection the flange cutouts are totally different than the formulas. It looks like they will be offering them in black, red, blue, green and gold anodized versions too. The potential Deep V - hub color combinations just increased exponentially.

$30 to anodize a $70 set of hubs seems steep to me. Maybe the SF crowd will pay a 50% premium for color matching, but I've got no problem with running black or silver hubs.

i got my EAI cog for around 22 when i went to ben's cycle. the guy gave me a discount since i bought a new wheelset.

I ebayed stuff from Ben's last year, and when it didn't show up they flat out refused to help me track my order down. Though my part of the country sometimes seems to be the black hole of the USPS, Ben's really let me down. It was one of the last online parts purchases I made.
It sounds like a lot of other people had good experiences though.

After two-days of commute plus some tooling about (about 60 miles), I like the cog FWIW. Its quiter than my old one...which was an EAI actually.

True dat, but IRO charges $5. Shipping sucks everywhere these days, but you'd think that you could throw a cog in a cardboard envelope ($0.50?) and ship it first class for a buck or two.

I think it is safe to assume that nothing is made in the USA unless you are paying through the nose for very small level producers.
