Ok, almost 50+ years ago (actually about 30) I rode my first century with a bunch of guys that were, let's say "determined to live life to it's fullest." After the ride we went out to have a few beers that night. I lost count at 14. The next morning I awoke in a sleeping bag in the back of a pickup truck camper with honey all over me, the bag, and a young lady that knew my name while hers was a mystery. No idea how any of that happened. Needless to say, the next day was not at all enjoyable, given we had a metric century to do. Yep, the day after my first century I learned that alcohol can dehydrate you pretty quickly and make you pretty stupid to boot. Those mistakes I never made again. Others? Yes, but not the same ones twice. Sometimes I wonder how anyone actually manages to survive 50+ years.

Those mistakes I never made again. Others? Yes, but not the same ones twice. Sometimes I wonder how anyone actually manages to survive 50+ years.

But I have a problem... I don't get to make different mistakes because I should have learned some hidden meaning when I made the earlier mistakes... and the new mistake somehow just underscores that the earlier mistake wasn't a mistake at all, but my true nature showing through in spite of the nice person I pretend to be 95% of the time...

And without even knowing what the next mistake I make is, I do know that it will be related as well...

Reminds me of my younger days when I was able to sleep in the music room at Bloomington North High School at the Hilly Hundred. We were elbow to elbow in our sleeping bags on the floor. At one point during the night I felt an arm slung over me and a warm body spooned around me.

It was a middled-aged lady. I slowly rolled over onto my back and, without waking up, she put her head on my shoulder. She slept like that most of the night until, about four in the morning, a photo flash woke me up. Her husband woke up, saw us sleeping there, and proceeded to take a picture. Good thing he thought it was funny.

I expect to be riding my bikes regularly up until the day I cannot mount them or turn a crank. Or until the day I have sit around in Depends instead of underwear while I drink my beer. Which ever comes first I guess.

I don't drink beer so maybe I'll go ride my bike in my underwear.
