Has anyone used or using the Cateye LED double shot. I'm wondering if it's bright enough for dark trails and single track. I'm also confused about light output as it says approx 85 lumens per LED, equivalent to a 10-12 watt halogen. I've also read that a 20 watt halogen is 700 lumens. So I'm confused. Any better lights out there. Blackburn X6 or Dinotte 5.

Bigger picture: the Double Shot and Triple Shot are being superceded by the Double Shot Pro and Triple Shot Pro, which are better. If you're considering LED, I'd hold out for the new versions if you want the best performance.

Chosing the right light or light's for your needs is a tough decision, especially if your local bike shop doesn't have a big selection on hand, I just recently went through this myself. Some of the impressive mid rage price, LED, handlebar lights I came across were the Cygo Dual cross 300

My setup included a helmet light also, So for my needs either one of these would work well for the bike light, I was more impressed with the light pattern from the Dual cross. I ended up staying with Halogen but at the weight savings of these two, they were hard to walk away from. As for the Lumens, That's probably about right, The whiter light "appears" to be equvilent to much more output by a halogen, If you go to the Niterider site and compare the Niterider classic at 32 watts to some of their HID lights, And their LED lights you get an appreciation for the effect of the whiter light. What set's them apart is run times and weight, Good luck with your choice, It's about as personal as picking the right bike!
