General Cycling Discussion - ugh, what a loser

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK, so maybe I'M one, too, but exactly how does this listing make anyone a loser?

just the fact that after he has spent god knows how much money on his new car, now it's 'bike selling time'
"I bought this bike for $70 and used it for about one month then got a car. Time to get rid of it."
I agree with counterman. At least the guy tried a bike. That's more than most adults do.

Should have posted in the commuter or living car free forum.
Should have posted in the commuter or living car free forum.
Or just accept people's choices as their own instead of judging....

I'm sorry I don't understand. Is your point that he's losing $20? Can you rent a cheap bike for a month for $20? I think he got the GOOD end of the deal!:)

His point is that, everyone wants a car and views bicycle as something people not as well off use to get around. The poster is completley bought into car culture.

Just because we're in a bike forum doesn't mean we're anti-car. For that you have to go to a special forum.

My point wasn't to be "anti car'... my point was that this guy was a loser because he's anti bike, in a sense.
Yeah, I should have posted in the car-free section. But then I would have gotten flamed because the post had nothing to do with being car free!
I just can't win!
I do not agree with his reasoning, but I do not judge this person for his actions.
When I got my first car, my riding time was greatly reduced. I valued two wheeled machines too much to get rid of them when I got a car though.
I was looked down upon for riding bicycles and racing motorcycles by the elite in my high school until I was a Juinor. Two events happened that year. First, Wide World of Sports said that my sport was the second most physically demanding sport in the world. Secondly, a cheerleader noticed my jersey and was impressed that I was sponsored. Only then did the elite think more positively of me.
What has this story got to do with your Craigslist opinion. Most people fall into sociological acceptance and peer pressure. We know that riding a bicycle is much more healthy than cruising in a car, but this person probably does not realize that. He or she probably does not view bicycling as an exciting sport and it will most likely take a significant event to make this person realize the benefits of cycling.
IMHO because this persons viewpoints are different does not make him or he a loser.

Whoopteedoo.
Yep, guy posts a mountain bike for sale, he sure is a loser.
Without my truck I couldn't have gotten to the start of the rail trail today. Well, I could have, but then I would have been to tired to have such an enjoyable ride. And I wouldn't have been able to ride the 40+ miles of trail cause I'd need to leave time and energy to ride the 20+ miles back home. In the rain.
Cars and bicycle can co-exist. This isn't the Third Reich where we all have to conform.
And how do you know he doesn't have another bike. Maybe he's got a roadie, or a unicycle. Or maybe he likes to skateboard around town, helping little old ladies get their cats out of trees.
You're an idiot to judge someone on so little information. But then again, who am I to judge you.
my point was that this guy was a loser because he's anti bike, in a sense.
Based on your logic then, you're against personal freedom. You're a commie........in a sense.

What makes you think he's anti bike?
Maybe his kid got sick and he needs to pay some Dr. bills. Maybe his house had a leaky roof and he had to get it fixed. Maybe he just needed some beer money.
i admit it's kind of dopey to get rid of a bike just because you get a car....it's not like one precludes the other.
