Well, Sunday was my 50th birthday so I guess I can be officially a over 50 member now. I celebrated with a 53 mile ride on Saturday, as Sundays weather forecast was dicey. Sadly, it was my worst 50+ ride of the year, as I was very low energy, and was really trashed by the time I finished. On the good side, it was one of my faster ides, so the intensive training I have been doing on my indoor trainer with intervals and strength intervals a couple of times a week. I also started Weight Watchers last week, I think that was the reason for just running out of gas the last 10 miles or so. I'll stop boring you now. But I do feel good about myself and the steps I am taking.;)

Congrats! Remember that there are no bad rides, some just better than others ;) . I'm looking forward to riding my age when I kick the big five-oh in December....

No need to worry about seeming to bore us. Wait till you've read a few of our Ride reports and we'll get our own back.

What's it like to be one of the elite?

Welcome aboard. It's all downhill from here & I mean that in the sense of the hard uphills are behind you!

The first 50 are learning about life.

The next 50 are about living life.

Welcome.

An "Official" welcome aboard!! I think we've all learned that while all days on the bike are terrific, some days are better than others. Best of luck with your new challenges and goals!

It couldn't have been one of your worst rides if you got one of your better times! What you really meant to say was that you had a really great training ride and the proof was that you were toast at the end! B) Congrats, and don't worry about running out of gas. As you guessed, it was probably due to the new diet not being as rich in simple fuels.

Welcome to the wane, the second half of life wherein you find the downhill slide. Your continued enjoyment of life depends on how well you manage the deterioration. Riding helps a lot, losing weight and eating better helps too. Good luck! We all need a little of that. bk

I did my downhill slide from ages 30 to 40. I have been finding my way back since then. Cycling is just one more step on the way back. But I have loved cycling since I was 15, I just got lost along the way.

Happy Birthday!
What kind of bike did you buy for yourself as a present?

From someone who crested the hill earlier this year, welcome to the sage and august 50+ group.
Just remember, it's only downhill when you coast.

Hey, bkaapcke, I'm not sliding down hill! I'm just climbing in another direction.

Heck, we all start "deteriorating" from about 18yo on. That's nothing new to 50+'rs.
