Mountain Biking - Question about shifters I ordered.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got these in the mail today
shifter/brake levers
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/SL707B01-Shimano+Xt+M750+Shifterlevers.aspx
and on the box it says "for V-brake". But then everyone I asked said I could use it for my bb5's. I just want to make sure, that it will work for my discs. I mean they both are mechanical, discs and v brakes so it should work right?
The brake cables and housings that came with it obviously are for v brakes, but other than replacing the cables it should be fine right?

you dont even have to replace these either.
edit: cancel that.... shorter :D well, the housing will be shorter, the cable will still be far too long for what you need.
yep, v's and mech disks both use the same brake cable/housing

I'm really looking forward to try these out. The brake levers feel real smooth.
What brakes are you running?

pheared? will you ever upgrade to hydro's?
If so, STI's might not be the best thing for you.

Not sure what sti's are.
At some point I'll upgrade to hydros, but right now I'm trying my hardest just to get this thing built and take a ride on it. Then afterwards, I'm going to get my trek 930 fixed. Then I'd like to upgrade the bike frame to something and/or the wheelset. I probably will go up to bb7s before hydros.

shimano total integration... where the brakes/shifters are one big piece.. (like you have there)
if you do get hydro's, you will have to buy new shifters too, unless you are good with a dremel :D

Oh yea, your right. Unfortunitely them being attached together usually makes it a better deal, I'll just have to deal with mechs for awhile.
