I bought a jamis bike in May for my three year old's birthday. It was a small 12 inch bike. I think he has already outgrown it. He want bigger tires so he can ride faster. Any recommendations?
Sell it on ebay or graiglist, and buy him a new one, they out grow them quick at that age. or save it for no. 2

Buy him another one, I used to buy used bike when the children were smaller, then just keep moving them down the line. Fortunately I only had two so I only had to buy a bike every other year:p Still have the last pair we bought for them, now they are own their own:D

I got my son a 16" Marin mbx50 when he was 3.5 yrs old and he's been riding it for the last 2 years with room to grow.

Our 3 year old boys did fine with 16" bikes. Some are harder to get on and going than others (we have a bunch!) due to frame/seat geometry. The twins are pretty short for their age too. The middle rider is on a 16" wheel bike and the other two are on 12" wheel bikes.

As far as where to find them...all of ours came from the the dump or out with the trash along the road. These bikes are also really easy to find at tag sales etc. No sense spending money on a bike they'll just outgrow in a year. The only thing I've done is lube them up and adjust the stem, seat etc. They wore right through the tires on the 12" bikes by the end of the summer (after this pic) and I put new tires on them. Good luck.

I got my 4 year old daughter a Specialized Hot Rock, and she loves it. It's very easy for her to ride, and it seems like it's very sturdy and well built. She does much better on it than she did on her 12 inch bike, partly because of size and partly because the Specialized bike is a more "balanced," and well-built bike than her previous 12 inch Wall-bike.

My son is a small five year old, we just got him a 16" Trek Jet. We could have gotten him a "compact" 20", but he fell in love with the 16" Jet and wouldn't have it any other way. The compact 20 sit as low as the 16, but with a longer wheel base and more adjustability. This young, they'll outgrown anything in a year or two, so I just made sure he has what he wanted to ride right now. Man, is he happy.
