i have an extra set of SS rims, 700cc, do you think these will fit on an 26" trek MTB

i dont know, try it.....i fit a pair of 27s on an old mtb frame, it really depends on the fork

i fit some 700s on a bridgestone mtb frame.. with knobbies too

Front should fit fine. The spacing in the back is not the same- 120 or 126/130 for track vs road and 135 for mtb, so you may have to do some serious squeezing of the dropouts, or slap some spacers on the hub. You can usually clear the seatstay bridge in the back.

I wanna try this on my mtb too. I think 650's would work w/ fewer brake reach problems.

how do you get that chain tension correct? it looks like you have vertical drops and no tensioner?

Magic gear maybe.
I think mavic makes a wheelset that is 700c compatible with mountain bikes (disc brake only). "Speedcity" maybe.
But brake reach is def going to be an issue. Good luck with that. If you find a way to deal with that, please pm me.

You CAN fit 700c wheels on a MTB frame
In fact a 26" x 2.35" is bigger than a 700x23, mavic makes adaptors to put V brakes or cantis on a MTB frame or you can run disks

this weekend i'ma go grab my crappy suzue rear wheel and put it on my old mtb. but gonna keep the 26x1.25 front wheel on it. it will be like a janky attempt at a funny-bikification conversion. fun!
the first time i tried to type "conversion" in that sentence it came out "conversation."

You can buy slicks made for mtb wheels. I bought a pair of specialized fatboy slicks and they grip very very well when cornering. I heard Ritchey Tom slicks were also great tires. I saw them on sale at REI few weeks ago.

You just have to pick the right gearing. I've done the same thing on a couple of bikes and it works ok. Sometimes the chain is a little tight for 5 or so miles, but it stretches pretty quick. :)

I have two semi weird projekts:
A MTB frame with 700x35c cross tires, cross fork and an eccentric hub used for XC. The ground clearence is amazing: http://fixie-king.dk/Diverse/skovtur/skovtur.htm
Another fun projekt is a road geometry frame with MTB fork and wheels. Funny to ride but the clearence makes it useless for XC: http://fixie-king.dk/coppermine/albums/jumbos_cykler/normal_PICT0010.JPG
So it goes both ways. I can only recommend 700c on mtb frames especially for XC.
