General Cycling Discussion - Hi, I'm a newbie!
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well sort of. I had a bike as a kid, but it's a rusted piece of crap now. Today I bought a Trek 4300 with clipless pedals (yes, I tipped over) and I'm looking forward to getting some excercise and having fun. I've been lurking on the forums for at least a year, but now that I have a bike and somewhere to ride, I decided to start posting. Just wanted to say hi :)
Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the forums. Post some pics of the new bike if you get a chance. Have Fun!

Hello to you too!
You OBVIOUSLY have been lurking here for awhile. Most "newbies" offer SOMETHING for the "Trolls" to jump on you about, but alas, you did NOT!
Seriously, enjoy your bike and bike riding!:) :)
I have been for the last 36 years.
And the Forums,...you gotta take most of it will a BIG grain of salt.:p
but you already know that, right?

Yes, I've been watching you guys for a while and I've read quite a few heated threads. I fitted the bike with lights and another seat (can anyone stand that stock seat???) and rode about six miles after midnight. An approaching car locked me in the shoulder of the road and my puny headlight didn't reveal a dead raccoon in front of me soon enough so I slammed on the brakes and tipped over not too far from the roadkill (and I thought roadkill looked nasty from inside a car). I tipped over once again after a gutter threw my front wheel off.
I'm coming from a completely sedentary lifestyle. My heart probably hasn't gone over 130 bpm in over two years so tonight's six mile ride rocked me pretty good. I'm hoping riding a few times a week and cutting down on the Taco Bell will change how I feel and look.
Don't eat Taco Bell unless you ride there. That will take care of the calories. And it's extra motivation to go get some Taco Bell. Mmmmmm, I miss Taco Bell. MMMMMMMMMMMM

You are due at least one clipless tipover with witnesses, so you're not done yet...
Unless you are the exception to the rule. :D
Enjoy your new obsession!
Welcome to biking and the forums.
You should learn more evasive moves as you become a more experienced rider. Hopefully, you did not get hurt when falling.
I like Taco Bell too. I do not eat out often, but when I do I try to make intelligent choices. At Taco Bell the best choice healthwise is the chicken soft taco. I used to order this with low-fat cheese and sour cream. Our Taco Bells no longer carry the low-fat cheese. Plkus it was fun watching the green cashiers trying to figure out how to enter the order into the cash register.:)

Hey Solid, welcome to bike forums! :)
I must say that you are braver than me. I won't go near clipless, no no no. Nope. Not me. Nuh uh. Big chicken here.
Ha! Perfect for the paranoia thread in Foo! I better go post that there..

I rode eleven miles today without getting nearly as exhausted and didn't tip over at all! That guy that passed me as I approached the roadkill may have witnessed me tip yesterday, but I'm not sure. I loosened up the pedals a bit so that if I freak out, my shoes will unclip. I'm still fine-tuning them. The power I get from clipless is great. Also the power delivery is a lot less choppy spinning with clipless than with regular pedals.

Now 940 calories should be about 90 minutes of riding- so get in a 2 hour ride and you you can have a dessert aswell.
Main thing starting out is to get used to riding- get used to breathing hard and get used to enjoying yourself. Don't try and do too much too soon- and another point- have you got the Pump and patch kit yet- You will be needing it.
Who goes to Taco Bell for the veggies? Life is short, eat hard! If you want veggies, go to a salad bar. Have I mentioned how much I miss Taco Bell?

So I was doing a search for Taco Bell food(I use the term loosely) to mock those of you with your strange and bizarre Taco Bell desires, and somehow I came up with this.
