Is it bad to buy Velocity Deep V non machined if i use a front brake? i want to buy them but am wondering should i just buy a machined front and non machined back. Is this a better idea?

you *CAN* use a brake on a non-machined rim, but you might as well get the machined rim in the front.

Braking on a non-machined, powdercoated surface is going to make the powdercoat come off unevenly and look like ass, as well as providing uneven braking in the meantime. Just go machined in the front, it's what you'll end up with anyway.

I have that set up and while it works, I'd rather have gone with machined. The powdercoat does eventually wear off and begins to look as if they are machined but still not as 'clean' looking.

Man, that is the grossest thing I've ever seen. Does a webpage substitute goatsee for hotlinked images for fun? eff them then. I've just had dinner as well.

i WAS hungry for breakfast... and then hotlinking cured me.

my wolber profils were unmachined when i got them. for the first few hundred miles the brakes were a bit temperamental and grabby in the wet. now the anodising's been worn off it it looks and performs like any other alloy rim.

i'm guessing that powdercoating will take longer to wear off.

just get a machined rim in the first place.

What picture are you all talking about?

And would the Corima pads meant for carbon rims work on the powdercoated surface of a Velocity Deep-V without marring the finish?

i've got corima cork pads.

they removed the anodising quite nicely.

So much for that idea.

If you're going to run a front brake, and you have the option of getting machines or unmachined, it would seem to make more sense to get a machined rim, since it is designed to do what you want.

But if you really really want that unmachined front wheel (thats why you're asking, right?), then why not get the unmachined rim and just do w/out the brake?

I seem to recall someone with a brake on a nonmachined rim making some horrifying squealing noise.....I mean like taxicab brake noise. does that happen in all cases?

The ****** pic at far too early this morning was more of an abrupt wake up than the ride in and my morning cup of coffee (which I had no appetite to finish after viewing the offending pic.)
zklone's .gif of the guy beating himself to death on his keyboard is the only thing keeping me sane today as I work on technical reports and release documents. It just keeps getting funnier every time I watch it. I swear I'm gonna fall off my bike from laughing if I think about it on the ride home. :roflmao:
