I believe you will need at least your birth certificate right now and as of 2007 you will have to have a passport.
As long as you are not flying from Mexico into the US, it does not appear that you need a passport. The air travel portion of the "Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative" takes effect January 8, 2007. The land and sea portion takes effect January 1, 2008.

But, I would suggest that you get one.
The current legal requirements are no passport necessary if all travel is within 30 miles of the US border.
So if im flying to cancun dec 25, coming home jan 1, 2007. Will i need a passport?
