Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Recently I was fit by a LBS using the bikefit.com system. I'm new to the triathlon world, being a runner wanting to join my tri friends in what appears to be great fun and new challenges. So, I was unaware that Bikefit was any different than a custom fit. However, upon contacting another LBS, the guy quickly shared how deficient bikefit was and how much better a custom fit by a trained professional was so much better. Of course, the price of THIS fit was $150 (whereas the bikefit.com deal was only $25). Now, the second guy was talking about building a custom bike for me and I quickly explained $4,000 was WAY out of my price range. However, all this left me wondering. Is the bikefit.com evaluation solid or do I need to look into getting the much more expensive "Serotta Size Cycle" or custom "Existing Fit" evaluation...I'm really only looking at spending about $1,200 or less on this first bike. Oh, by the way, when I told the second store that I was 6-4 and the bikefit.com basically said I would fit a 60cm Felt raod bike, he said that the Felt frame was too short for someone my size (of course, they don't carry Felt)...though, the first LBS that did the bikefit.com measurements recommended the Felt 60cm (which, yes, they carry) road bike (not the SR32 FELT tri bike as I'm a newbie AND I live in a fairly hilly area).
