Also, like Chris said, we won't be announcing the checkpoints. But I'll warn you that the course hits many major neighborhoods. Plan your transitions. Also, this will be an ordered race. Do the checkpoints in order. See you tomorrow!!

I was going to be all triplets of belleville, but that would be like, actual effort, and I have a hard enough time waking up in the morning, nevermind actually hunting down costume materials.

i am literally getting sugar-rush type pulses of excitment for this **** throughout the day.
my first alleycat: got almost to the 3rd checkpoint, then realized i had lost both my manifest and my spokecard. then i came home and drank. ha ha ha. it was fun while it lasted though, i'd definitely do it again.

my second alleycat: better than halfway to the fourth checkpoint, flipped myself over the bars (yeah i use my brake) like an idiot, and take the fall entirely on my right hand, nicely jamming my wrist. took myself home and sat on the couch. it was fun while it lasted, and someday i'll finish one of these races :-)

How do you all destroy your manifests? Every one that I signed was moist and in 8 pieces.

great race.
i finished just under 2 hours. didn't place or anything, but i still finished god damn it.
i got so lost in north charlestown, somerville and cambridge the three neighborhoods i dont know well.
all in all a great time. ZuZu's was fun too. I got so **** faced off 2 beers. (3 if you count the Narragansett i pounded outside of zuzu's)
so who's down for the boston-providence race?
Also screw vegimite. URGH.
That vegimite is now sitting in my bag, as i claimed that it was tasty while eating it.
Granted, pretty much anything with salt in it would have been tasty at that point.
I'm interested in the boston-providence ride. i heard nov 19'th as a date?
I'm in... and I'm starting a boston/providence thread so it can by dicussed sperately

I also found the full lyrics to i'm a little teacup. I think maybe 1 person got the whole thing:
I'm a little teacup short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout. When I get all steamed up, here me shout, tip me over and pour me out.
I am so proud of my little vegemite check point.

Great times last night. Thanks to all for coming out. A special mention to Jacobs for ripping his derailleur off on the opening stretch; hopefully your frame isn't toast. There were 52 racers total, and 39 of them finished all the checkpoints. The lead group finished the 18 mile course in 1:10, and DFL came in over an hour later at 2:12. Cash prizes went to top three finishers, plus first lady, and there was a special prize for first "Clydesdale" (or racer of "impressive stature"). Here are partial results:
1. Tyler Sage (on a fixed gear!)
2. Lucas Brunelle
3. Peter Bradshaw
4. Craig Roth
5. Pete Rubiano
6. Josh
7. Skizza
8. Rhoulin
9. Howell (aka Fatbat)
10. Tony
First lady: Lodri!
First Fat Kid / Clydesdale: Andrew, who won 5 pounds of candy
DFL: Luke and Dan, who won my broken crank arm, lovingly fashioned into a necklace by yours truly. They also got their money back.
Thanks again, y'all. Let's do it again sometime.

I saw that stuff, and I'm like, "Oh chocolate sauce on crackers, I'll see if I can get the smallest one I can get, because that's a gross combo!" Needless to say, I would've sang the song to its full extent had my entire mouth not been engulfed with so much salt.
I went through half a bottle of gatorade to get the taste of that out of my mouth. Actually pretty much all the checkpoints were absolute pain, what with that maple syrup, pizza sauce, the pumkin shot, the tabasco/vodka shot (which I had to do both pushups, and another shot because I have "The Slapshot" gloves).... All I wanted was water.... Just good fluid....
My frame is very toast, broke both the seatstay and chainstay. I never should have owned such a fragile piece of plastic anyways.
Good times, glad I got to do the second half of the race.

I think both Peter and Lucas were on road bikes. Not sure about the rest but I can vouch for the difficulty of beating Lucas and Peter with a fixed gear.
sounds like a lot of fun!
I've never done an alleycat but definitely will in the near future. would anybody not mind posting where the start/checkpoints/finish were, by any chance? I'd really like to ride through it sometime and see what i'm in for. :D

Here's a pedometer of the course, roughly: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=522988
I added the South End checkpoint (Shawmut Ave) a few hours before the race and subtracted a Jamaica Plain checkpoint. The old course looked something like this: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=514494
It's only a couple miles longer, but I took out a second hill climb that would've been annoying for people who'd worked all day, probably.
Jacob, sorry to hear about the frame. I just bought a replacement fork for that one that got smashed when I got hit. Maybe the bent one can be a DFL prize for a future race.

probably not, i've been doing my commute and working in spite of it, which had it's painful points, but i'm not going to put the wrist through anything i can avoid. I kinda want to know how much air i got, it felt like i was effing flying when it happened, i was seriously expecting to get run over.

this was on the way to the 4th checkpoint, i was coming down the cambridge street bridge over the highway towards allston, i thought the car was going left, it decided to go straight, i slammed on the breaks and flipped over the bars. good times.
