i'm an experienced roadie and just bought a new road bike, so i'm interested in converting my 1986 steelie Trek to a fixie or single speed. I'm new to this kind of cycling, so can anyone refer me to some tips about this? Also...anyone know anyone in Austin who does this kind of conversion? Thanks...I look forward to trying it out!

Beyond that there is a abuntance of info in this forum. Dig in and prepare to become hooked and spend a lot of cash(not that it can't be done on the cheap but everyone loves UPGRADES!)...

P.S. I don't know of any shops in Austin off the top of my head but I'm sure there are some... I'll be there for the 2007 Houston to Austin MS 150, I love that ride...

i've never dealt with them directly, but i'm sure somebody at yellow bike (http://austinyellowbike.org/) can help you with your conversion.

haha, no need to justify. there are so many sarcastic *******s (myself included, on my good days) around here that you have to take everything with a grain of salt.

apparently among this clique the term "hipster" has become the go-to insult. this is a shame, because i know lots of fixed gear riders, and there are so many sweet applicable insults that are going unused.

i dont even think hipsters are real anymore. everybody has a different explanation of what a hipster is, and nobody ever likes them. does anybody ever claim to be a hipster?

edit: and i agree, there must be way more insults, especially ones better than hipster!
