Bicycle Mechanics - SPDs with Time Cleats
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm getting ready to buy a bike this afternoon, and the guy is offering it to me with SPDs on it. THe shoes that I am wearing now have Time cleats on them. I've never ridden SPDs, or even looked closely at them. Will I be able to (safely) ride this bike home 10 miles?

Your time cleats won't fit in the SPD pedals. Your shoes likely fit SPD cleats though. Ask the guy to give you a pair of SPD cleats so you can get home. If not, hopefully you can hit a store on the way and pick up a pair of SPD cleats. Apparently they are not all entirely compatible between different brands (based on another thread about cleat compatibility). Some work together better than others.
I don't think it would be very comfortable at all with Time cleats on SPD pedals. I'm thinking you'll have alot of foot slips.

If you have your Time pedals (or platform pedals), why not bring them and a pedal wrench with you and switch the pedals when you get the bike. You'll be much more comfortable on the way home.
