Any reason why the 105 chainset has one less teeth than the Ultegra?Both are Hollowtech II 10 speed.
Are they both Interchangeable with a shimano 10 speed set up even though they have +/- one tooth

According to Shimano's website, they have these choices for the 105 crank.

Gearing : 52-39T / 50-39T / 53-39T(FC-5600), 50-39-30T(FC-5603)

ok.The reason I ask is because i have a 53/39 fsa at the monent and i've seen a 105 for sale that I might get,but it is 52/39.Will this be ok?

Yes. In fact I think the closer ratio is better.

The difference is less than 2% and I don't think you will ever notice it. I have two bikes, one with a 52T big ring and the other with a 53 and, as far as riding them goes, they are tweedle dum and tweedle dee.

both have the same number of teeth.I don't know if they are all 130bdc

And regarding the Ultegra's on sale at Nashbar.Will the octalink sets work with ok with 10 speed?

No. Completely different BB/axle design.

These are questions you could answer yourself if you'd just look at Shimano's technical documents.

Why do you want to change, anyway? The FSA not working right?

I like the sound of the new Cranks.The FSA is ISIS,and the damn bottom bracket went after about 500 miles.These new external ones are supposed to last a lot longer.(so they say)
I'll have to check shimanos FAQ's.Thanks a lot.
So the Octalink won't work on a 10 speed set up.

Yes they are both 130 mm BCD.

The 9-speed Ultegra crank with it's matching Octalink bb will work fine with an otherwise 10-speed set-up. Obviously the 9-speed Ultegra crank won't work with the new 10-speed external bearing bottom bracket cups.

Here are the Service Diagrams (http://www.shimano.com.au/publish/content/australia/en/cycling/customer_support/service_diagrams.html) since 2003. Each year Shimano switches over a new line to 10-speed. Look at the exploded diagrams of the cranks to see the difference.

Here are the Compatibility Charts (http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/cycle/sac/us/en/technical_service/compatibility_charts.html). They aren't up to date, but that's all Shimano has on their site. Note that the 9-speed and 10-speed lines are officially incompatible, though there are reports of people successfully intermixing them.
