Southern California - socalers (and honorary socalers) where do you store your bike(s)?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

where do you keep your bike(s) and if you have a garage and keep the bikes in the house... which room and why IN the house and not in the garage?
My bikes live in my apartment. I don't have a private garage, so that's the only place where they would be reasonably secure.

I've started keeping them in the living room. I used to leave them locked up on a rack on the patio, but that didn't keep someone from taking one of my son's BMX bikes so inside they came.

Do I see mirrors to the right of each bike?

Do I see mirrors to the right of each bike?
*sigh*... yes! lol! i KNEW someone would mention that..... i workout in the garage...the bike wall is to my left.... the mirrors are for checking form when working out (there is also one on the "front" wall)
rather than just put one or two... cuz i don't always stand in the same spot... we put up one between each bike to make it look better... more even!
side note: bailey (the cat) sits in front of the mirrors looking into them.... we think he's wondering how to get into the "other room" that he sees! it's quite comical... and he does it EVERY day or every time he gets to go into the garage (they.... dog and cats... get to hang out... out there with me when i work out!)

Do I see mirrors to the right of each bike?Helps in locating a bike that matches the jersey/jacket/helmet?
BTW, that's very organized. Makes me want to tidy up my apartment.

The bikes stay inside! Why? Cause I'm the man of the house and I call the shots!
That and we don't have a garage, but two extra bedrooms.:p

ok.... the REAL reason for the mirrors is our bikes like to admire themselves!   :p :p :p

I keep mine on the planet Mars, and the little green men bring it to me every time I want to go on a ride. They are using up a lot of gas this year... :D

The road bike leans against the kitchen/breakfast nook wall. Mountain bike and BMX and wife's bike locked up down in the garage of our complex.
Had sold my house last year to get a jump on grad school - can't wait to have a place we can call our own with our own garage! (Working on my cars at 2am in a shared underground garage is sometimes scary as I have mental pictures of someone creeping up behind me with a crowbar!!)

Hmm...yeah, since Cali is OCP, she needs to pick the bike that matches the outfit. Must be nice to pick out a bike like picking clothes out of the closet! :D
Can you still park the cars inside??

I just bought the short arm kit or you can just buy the V blocks and I stuck two sets on the upper arms so my road bike sits on the inside(its narrow) then my hardtail is on the outside, then on the bottom, I hang my full suspension. I have an Enduro so I just hook the rear seat triangle and the front sits on the ground....

My garage at street level under my house, so I keep my normal riding bike in there. It shares the stand (just like the one Neccros has) with my mountain bike which I haven't ridden in a couple of years.
My old beater bike is now set up in my house on my just set up trainer so I can watch tv and spin at night.
My folding bike is in my car, just in case I get an opportunity to ride.
My roadie stays hangin in my room when not bein ridden, and sometimes i cuddle with it when i sleep, jk. My fixie stays in the house and my jumping bike is in the garage.

So what do you ride/jump with and where do you like to jump???
Hi,
Most of my bikes (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=3197578&postcount=71) and the rest of my family's bikes are in the garage (12 complete bicycles and 1 frame). :o
My vintage Bianchi (last bike on the post above) is on display in the stairwell of my house. There was never any argument from my wife about that bike being in the house. :)
Six of the 12 bikes are on 2-bike racks, my training bike, the white Look, resides on my workstand and the rest are kind of scattered. I guess I should sell or donate some of them.
BTW, Caligurl, do you do garage arrangement consulting? Even if I had a shot of my garage I'd be too embarassed to post it. ;) The photos of my bikes are in front of the closed garage door for a reason.

Got you beat. :) Missing is the wifes Medici Pro Strada which was on the stand, and the middle daughters Terry Chrom 8spd Campy bike, along with the GT Mini of my 9yo son.

In my house they're in the garage, but at my cabin I don't have a garage, so they're in the storage shed. I assume that counts as the garage? :)

1 cyclocross, 1 track (mass start), 1 track (TT) (I don't actually have one for TTs), 1 beater, a few extras for guests, one at th SO's house in canada, one or two on loan friends...
I had up to 13 at one time. Wife made me thin the herd. Right now I've got a Paramount, LHT and Bacchetta Corsa recumbent for myself. Wife has a Medici Pro Strada, 14 yo daughter has a Leader, and a MOSH BMX, 12yo has a Terry Chrom 8spd Campy ($160 off CL) and a JMC BMX, 9yo has a Felt F24 and GT mini BMX. I also have a Trek 620 lugged frameset that is screaming fixie if I ever get to it. :)
A bunch of these were found on Craigs list for under $200.

No road bike? Or do you use the cross bike for roads?
Cross bikes make good commuters. :)

That was in addition to the road bike and mtn bike. I actually have an extra road bike in canada, and a non-bouncy mountain bike that's a backup/loaner. And another cx frame I have to build up. I don't have a TT bike for the track, but do have an old Gitane that's not built up that I bent and had fixed. I sold the other track bike that got bent and fixed (buyer knows complete history, and has seen the tube that was cut out-- it's in my LR).
the bikes are stored in the LR and the garage. track bike tends to stay in the car during the week unless I have to put other stuff in.
I've sort of given up counting actual bikes because they can get assembled/disassembled/rearranged at random.
So what do you ride/jump with and where do you like to jump???
I ride a fisher bitter. I'm really not a hardcore jumper, really just fun for messin around on, but i go to some small jumps by los al high school, and then i beleive its called hidden valley, on beach and adams... right behind trader joes.
U know of any good jumps for a beginner?
Start with one right in front of your house.
http://www.wolfenet.org/gallery2/d/2476-2/clearing23.jpg
This helps when doing the real thing. Also, it's much easier to be fearless when your 12, than to learn to jump later in life. Funny how many MTB'ers show up at a BMX track and can't jump.
Ahhhh, to be 12 and fearless again... That resulted in two spiral fractures on my tibula and fibula, lower leg bones. Damn skateboards... Im past the curb jumps, and can do like 2-3 foot high dirt jumps with like 5-6ft gaps, and also like to mess around in the skatepark by my house.

We have no garage, so mine is hung on the wall in the basement. Which is fun (har) because it's actually just a glorified cellar and I get to carry the bike up and down these narrow steps. It's exciting wondering when I'm going to fall down those steps with my bike because I can't really see where I'm going.

Jennifer, sounds like you have a great excuse for asking for an ultralight bike. It's for your safety in transporting it up and down the stairs. :D
