Today my dear, sweet Husband turns 52 years young. :love:
We are getting ready to go on a "ride your age" ride of 52 miles. It has been 3 days since the weather has been nice enough to ride. It is a balmy 35 degrees here in MinneSNOWta. But, there is no rain, snow or wind so it should be plenty warm :eek: I think just being able to get out and ride is going to be a great b-day present for Steve.

October 19 is an important date in American history. Here's some background from a Google search (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/today/oct19.html):
On October 19, 1781, British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, giving up almost 8000 men and any chance of winning the Revolutionary War. Cornwallis had marched his army into the Virginia port town earlier that summer expecting to meet British ships sent from New York. The ships never arrived.
In early October, some 17,000 American and French troops led by Generals George Washington and Jean-Baptiste Rochambeau surrounded British-occupied Yorktown. Off the coast, French Admiral François de Grasse strategically positioned his naval fleet to control access to the town via the Chesapeake Bay and the York River.
The Franco-American siege exhausted the British army's supplies of food and ammunition. With no hope for escape, Cornwallis agreed to the terms of Washington's Articles of Capitulation, signing the document at Moore House on October 19. Hours after the surrender, the general's defeated troops marched out of Yorktown to the tune "The World Turned Upside Down."
During his occupation of Yorktown, General Cornwallis set up headquarters in the Thomas Nelson house pictured above. The residence saw wartime action again during the Civil War, when it was used as a hospital. Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown effectively ended the Revolutionary War. Lacking the financial resources to raise a new army, the British government appealed to the Americans for peace. Almost two years later, on September 3, 1783, the signing of the Treaty of Paris brought the war to an end.

Almost 52 miles...okay, only 42 but we ran out of day light and didn't have our lights with. :rolleyes:
But....we did stop and have a great Vanilla Latte and a piece of wonderful Apple Pie Al-a-mode. No wonder we ran out of day light :rolleyes:
Ahhhh....but it was a wonderful ride and it felt great to get out and ride on Cheesflavors' b-day!

As promised, here's the pie pic. At the 31mi point, we stopped at this place in Loretto, MN called Retro's Grill. Great little place. Great coffee and tasty pie of the day. This day was apple :)
