Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - does anyone have this nashbar bag?

i need to get a waterproof bag immediately....has anyone tried this: http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?sku=9036 ? it's only $50, so i'm a little skeptical, but i can barely even afford that right now.

If you have a non-waterproof bag already, and you don't need to be in and out of it repeatedly, look at using a Sea-to-Summit dry bag as a liner. It will save you a bunch of cash if you already have a bag. I've got a non waterproof backpack and a vinyl roll top dry bag, and that keeps my stuff dry just fine.

It looks fine, I mean, I'm sure it's a great bag, but unless you really like backpacks as opposed to messenger bags, for $30 more I absolutely love my Banjo Brothers bag, and it comes with a nice padded laptop sleeve that's big enough that I can put my iBook in my neoprene sleeve inside the Banjo Bros. laptop sleeve. It's also made of vinyl truck tarp, so you know that **** is waterproof.

Is that bag a pannier?

the nashbar one looks like a disaster for heel strike... but it is really cheap. I've been looking for something affordable like that so I may order one.

yeah, it'll clip onto a rack...it does look like your heel would hit it though. anyway, i just ordered one.

oh man, that bag looks amazing. How could you go wrong? The only problem I could see is if it fell apart due to poor quality construction. Otherwise, it looks like a great deal. Heel strike shouldn't be too much of an issue since its not that wide. You can just hang it as far back as possible. Sure its big, but its mostly height. everyone knows its not height, but girth you have to worry about.

yea, it's terrible. i bought it and soon sold it. it has this big ass plastic thing ur supposed to put in the bag, so with it it, the bag, is useless b/c it has these hugh holes when the buckles meet. so u have to use the water proof bag. it was way to big and it didn't fit right. it's terrible, stay away.

WAit, how why does it have huge holes in it? How does this plastic thing(Im assuming its a back plate to stiffen things up) adversely affect its use?

it's hard to explain. if u take the black plastic bag, then the red part is useles b/c things fall out of the exposed ares. and black platic bag thing is stupid b/c there are no inner pockets. just one big bag. and the black bag is way to long to fit in the red part so u have to roll it down in order to close the buckles. way to much work for a bag.

so the black thing is like the ortlieb messenger backpacks that you have to roll up... it doesnt seem like thats too horrible. I wouldnt be using it as a daily bag where I needed pockets for different things. I would be using it as a pannier, so one big compartment is fine,id just separate everything by putting it in plastic bags, then taking out the bag I need. The bonus would be that when I get to a town I an take the whole thing off and throw it on my back and lock up my bike without worrying about the stuff in the panniers. Does it seem like it would fit this purpose ok?

edit: I didnt mean to sound like I was just disregarding your statement, and I agree it doesnt seem very good to use as a daily bag, you NEED pockets for that kind of usage. I am just trying to ascertain whether or not it will be useful to ME. how was the build quality? materials?

sounds like it would be perfect for u. i sold it to a guy who wanted for the same purposes u have listed, he loved it. i just misread ur post. so i gues yea it is great. but i would wait till it goes on sell again. i only paid 35 or something like that not 50. but if u need it asap, go for it.

wow.. for 25 bucks id buy two!(and I just may) I plan on doing some touring come spring, but id like to do some weekend trips before then. I think i will wait till the next sale, nashbar is pretty good about that. thanks again!

i'm confused...i want to use this mainly as a backpack, and occasionally/rarely as a pannier. i don't need to get in/out all of the time though. i already bought it, so i guess i'll just find out in a few days. by the way, i got it from the "returned goods" section for about $30, and it's still there, so maybe there are more at that price if anyone else is interested. at any rate, i'll let you guys know how it works when i get it.

Complete and total POS. I gave mine away to the first person who would take it. Before that the cat slept on it. A search will turn up many posts on why this pannier/backpack should have been strangled at birth.

If you were asking if the Banjo Bros. messenger bag was also a pannier, the answer is a resounding nope, it's just a messenger bag.

I have 2 of their panniers on one of my bikes though, and they're nice enough.
