Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - My first Fixie =)

I've been building this over the past week or so, I cant wait till it's done. It's nothing special but it should be fun, it's an old Nishiki Rally that I got for free at a Garage sale about 3 years ago. It was stolen from me about 2 years ago and I got it back in parts sans the headset and wheelnuts (wtf?). It's been sitting taking up room in my shed since then, still in parts untill a few days ago.

I found some parts to make it complete, nothing really good (the bike isnt worth upgrading)

This is it in it's basic mock up.

Things left to do:
Remove rear brake lever.
Either get new bars, or re-tape these ones.
Toe clips or mallet pedals.
Sandblast and paint.
New front tire.
Hook up front brake.
Cut second ring off of crank and cut off the bash guard.
Maybe get a better chain.
Find some better wheelnuts for the back.
New seat.

So, theres alot left to do, but it's all small things. Should be finished soon, i'm probably sandblasting it on Wendsday.

Keep the chainguard. Then you won't have to roll your pants up.

I reckon cut and flip the bars. It'll change the whole look.

I was thinking about a cut'n'flip, but they're already really small.

Id get hood covers -- black rubber ones that create a smooth transition from hoods to bars w/ tape...

its what i run on my drops (on my own nishiki conversion, no doubt) and if you position them correctly and tilt your drops up a little, you can have fully functional bullhorns (with the hoods and the top part of the drops) and also drops... with the drops!

works for me; thought i'd share.

I'll have to look into that, i'm going to the shop tommorow to maybe pick up some pedals and other stuff.

Also, I hooked up the brake, removed the rear lever and painted (yes, painted) the front tire. I'm getting a new one on the weekend, I just cant stand how rotted gumwall looks.

And for paint i'm thinking White with gold lugs, what do you guys think?

Paint looks good as is, why make yourself wait longer to ride it?

Plus, a decent paint job will only increase the likely-
hood that this bike will get stolen. I see old road
bike conversions like this as way to have a make a
relatively theft-proof bicycle (insofar as no one will
want it).

I'm really picky about how my bikes look, I really take pride in them. Besides, i've painted bikes before and I can get a damned good product in 2 days.

the new chain also sounds like a good idea! Even with a brake you don't want the thing snapping while your mashin'!!!! Believe me....:rolleyes:

Oh, I know, I've already thrown a chain on this and a number of other bikes in full mash.

It sucks, really bad. Like 9 stitches and a torn out knee bad.

It looks whack in the picture. those brake levers... eerr
