Not sure anybody calls this a classic but a neighbor gave me this bike last year. I think I had figured it to be the first year for Grand Prix. Cottered cranks, sticker on the seat tube indicating it was made in Holland.

I don't think this project will ever bubble to the top for me and I'm looking to get rid of it. Rear rim has bad dent, and I think the fork may be bent back a bit, but it looks like it has all the original equipment.

So before I strip off parts for the junk drawer and toss the carcass, I thought I'd ask if anyone thinks it worth keeping (and maybe paying shipping for). I also might just set it out by the garbage and let the scavangers claim it.

Check the rear hub. May be a vintage Flip/Flop track hub, a Brampton... may be worth more by it's lonesome than the rest of the bike right now. I've gotten over 150$ before for a decent set (front/back)...

1968 was the first year of the Grand Prix. They had wingnut QR hubs, Brampton track hub on the rear, and Brooks B5N or B15 leather saddles. Yours is a '74 - '76; you can tell by the style of the toptube decal. Look on the back of the seat tube near the toptube for a serial number, and let us know what it is.

Built in the Netherlands, April 1974

G = Gazelle, Raleigh's sister TI company; E = April; 4 = 1974

Coincedentally, I just bought a '74 Grand Prix too. Mine's a big 25 1/2", built in Nottingham and assembled in America (that way you can have the worst of both worlds) ;)
