Great Lakes - Where are YOU riding this weekend?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
How come I don't see any post from the BF MidWesterners about their upcoming weekend rides? Thirty degrees and light drizzle never hurt anyone :D !!
I put in 20 miles on the Mountain Bike today over at Waterfall Glen Trail in the Chicago Burbs. Man, that bike is heavy! My plan is to bundle up and head out tomorrow morning for at least 30 miles.
What about you?
Later.

This weather totally blows. The average high is usually ~60 degrees in October. When was the last time we got that high? Top it off with what has been a very wet fall and you have some bad weather for riding.
The fact that mother nature has cruelly pocketed the nice spots when I can't ride and the rain when I can is all the more frustrating.

I'm hoping to get out some tomorrow, but I also have a tree to dispose of and it looks like there isn't going to be a lot of dry time to do it in.
You know I'll end up riding. Missed riding last weekend...getting anxious....
If it is dark and wet outside, it's the basement for me. Oddly enough, it's dark and wet down there too.
Current Temp 46 and Feels Like 44. Well when I go outside it freaking feels like 34! Fall blows. Later.

Ugh! I'll be riding nowhere.
First (and this is a really good thing) my wife is pregnant with our 2nd :D She's constantly tired and nausous...so I'm busy at work M-F from 7am to 4pm, chasing around my 2 year old, keeping the house in order, cooking dinners, changing diapers, making runs to the store for Oberweis ice cream and pickles, doing laundry/dishes, so on...so forth.
This weekend will actually envolve helping my father-in-law knocking out a wall in his house to enlarge his kitchen...which will turn into some drywall patching, some electric re-routing, painting and trim work. Not to mention I'll probably get a call from my brother-in-law asking me to install a power window motor in his F-150. Last week I was at my dad's house putting in a new hot water for him (which BTW...since when did gas water heaters start costing $350-$450? I remember when you could pick one up for around $150!) Of course it ended up being a pain and required some plumbing modifications. Luckily...I've done alot of work to my own house over the past 2 years (a new water heater, a new pilot assembly for my furnace, painting, new trim work, new privacy fence for the back yard, organized the garage to actually fit a vehicle in it, new kitchen counter, sealed the 4 seapage areas in my basement, new carpeting in the basement)...so its been relatively easy to maintain and "update" free for a while. Next up will be preparing the new baby's room. It never ends does it? :D
Yeah...its pretty cold outside too. I've been wanting to try out the Under Armour shorts and long sleeve jersey I bought around a month ago. A new Walmart near my locale had a nice selection...and the price was right. I'm new to the whole "wearing proper athletic clothing" thing...since 2 years ago I was 125 pounds heavier than I am now and not regularly riding a bike.
So I won't be riding anywhere this weekend...I'm a tad bit busy. I'll have to enjoy the posts of others and live through them! I can't wait for spring...or at least a sunny 55 degree with no wind autmn day. :D
I see the sun breaking thru, roads are dry and light wind, I will go around my area here on the Northshore for an hour or so just to get out. I set up the trainer last night and I am getting ready to pack away the BikeFriday travel bike in hopes of taking it somewhere warm this winter.

I could believe that. I wonder where it ranks in terms of precipitation. Last I heard they were predicting a colder than usual winter...

Made it down the Fox River Trail from Elgin to Aurora. Not a bad day for a ride.

Well I got out today and went down with 19 other riders to belle isle and back, it was good. I bundelded up and it spitered a bit during the first oh 10 miles or so, but other wise it was dry and the roads weren't bad. Got around 60 miles or so I'd say, it was nice.

I was among the 19 caadman mentioned that did ride through Detroit and around Bell Isle. Last time we do that route this year.:(
It has been a wet and cold October. I've barely gotten any riding in. I did the same thing last year when October came around. I'm just not ready to get on that trainer. I end up going easy in Oct and hit the trainer in Nov. Now if the weather had been nice in Oct, it would be a different story. Had the inlaw family over for MIL's 75th birthday. Then got out for a quick 20 miles. Felt really good.

It's deer season.. Who rides when they can hunt?? Weather is perfect... for deer hunting
Crap around 10am things started looking good for ride. The sun was coming out and the winds seemed light. To bad I was out the door headed to the Oak Brook Mall. Yes, I was being dragged by the wife and kid. I did do a 2 mile walk with Eddie Vedder, the dog!!! I hate this crappy fall and the mall. Later.

I shot me a variety 12 pack of Goose Island beers while huntin' down at the local liquor aisle. I've skinned the labels and will be enjoying them as they cure properly in the ice box.
Mmmm... Nut Brown Ale.... :D

It's funny how someones perception can be skewed when they're only looking at what is happening right near them.
When I saw this...
They said on tv last night this is the forth coldest fall on record
I thought "No way, it's been a really mild fall so far."
Well a random sampling of this months weather data for various midwestern cities shows you are right on. Only here in Muncie have we had an almost exactly average fall. Everyone else has been well below. Go figure.

Yesterday, the sun actually shone in metro Milwaukee for about 2 hours and I was out in it on my bike. Joined up with a club ride, the Mapleton Wander sponsered by Cream City Cycle Club. a pleasant 45 mile loop out from Wauwatosa through Elm Grove, Pewaukee, Hartland and Brookfield. Nasty headwind on the way out, but coming back sure was fun! I enjoy cold weather cycling as long as it isn't wet, although I'm still working on the right combination of layers, as my torso was toasty while my toes were ice cubes. Hmm, maybe those booties aren't just for sissies, after all! :p
I know this thread was supposed to be about this past weekend, but this comming weekend I'll be riding in the 80 degree warmth of Phoenix, AZ -- with a little luck. I'm flying down on Thursday night and hoping my Friday morning meeting ends quick enough that I can find a rental and get a ride in Friday afternoon before my flight back on Saturday morning.
Just thought I'd rub it in :p

Well, we did it ... Got started a little later than I had hoped. The temp was 39F when we started, dropping to 33F when we finished at Apple River Canyon SP. Winds NW 20 m/h, gusting to 35. In general we were headed west, so the wind helped push us up a few of the hills.
