Hey guys, this is outrageously off topic, but I have to ask. When a whip cracks, it is because the end breaks the sound barrier right? I believe it. But I need some proof. Does anybody know of a website where I can get solid proof? I have spent the last hour searching.

I don't know if this is solid proof, but this page explains it and says that it does. DG
Sorry, lost my mind, just for a moment.:D

Uuum, Dirtgirnder, was there supposed to be a link? I can't see it if there is. Try again, just put the name of the site, no www. or .com or anything, just Yadda yadda. Thanks!!

Yeah, I saw that one, but no one believed that one. They want something solid. It sucks, I've been to Physics sites,I've emailed someone at MIT, Texas A&M. I am going crazy.

Hey Dirtsqueezer, I went to that site you recommended again and went to the FAQ, I found what i was looking for. A little editing and it looked like something from MIT, and my boss fell for it.

Go to www.scientificamerican.com and find their feature "Ask the editor" or something like that. You can ask questions related to science and they will get experts to answer them. Of course, it might take a while!

Another good place is www.newscientist.com, which has a HUGE collection of Q&A, with answers from experts and non-experts alike. I even noticed Brian Eno ask a question on there once. The only bad thing is that their site is prone to be down a lot, but it's a terrific site when you can access it.
