Commuting - I thought I was commuting, but I guess it's a loaded tour.

I picked up an early 90's steel cyclocross bike for commuting and retired my comfort bike to the paths with the kids. For the heck of it, I weighed the bike before I commuterized it...26 lbs. Then I added my gear:
Rack
Fenders
Blinkies
Headlight and battery
Full water bottle
Panniers
1 set work clothes
Multitool
Spare tube
Frame pump
Lunch and snack
Spare gloves and headgear for changing weather.

All in - 42 lbs. I guess I won't be making that next saddle choice based on one being 30 grams less. Has anybody else weighed their rig in ready to go to work condition? How much junk are you carrying?

I have pretty much exactly the same stuff. My lunch is usually a ton of heavy stuff. I also have two lights & a bag on top of the rack.

I'm tipping the scales usually in the upper 40's.

I'd be shocked if my bike weighed less than 60 lbs. :)

I'll have to weigh it one of these days. I'm sure my Raleigh was a lot lighter... hopefully I can find a decent fork for a decent price, and get it fixed soon.

Um, 20.2 pounds or so, and that includes the frame pump... it's nice to ride a fixed gear. Add 1 pound for a full water bottle and half a pound for multitool+spare tube etc. which are in my backpack. So 22.

DoB -- since my gear list looks a lot like yours I'd bet my bike fully equipped is in the upper 40s -- maybe even 50. Frankly I'm a little frightened to actually weigh the whole rig. I figure some things are better left unknown.

A heavier bike just means you are tough! Grab that bathroom scale and get a weight (you know, weigh yourself and then pick up the bike for a difference).

And LoFarkas, you can work in your biking clothes? And what about lunch? After I ride in I usually have a big appetite....

My commuter is 22lbs plus another 1.5 lbs for the Li-ion battery. That does not count the camelback [holds spare, pump also]

It's either 22 lbs or 40 lbs depending on which bike I take. That doesn't include lunch, water, tools or backpack.

My bike is a 30+ year old steel frame Azuki. It probably weighed 35-40 lbs BEFORE I commuterized it.

Upper 40's. I carry a full suit, shoes, coffee, lunch, rain gear, water tool kit etc. I need to simplify!

My bike is about 30lbs but tools, pump and work necessities are carried on my back. The 30 includes old steel frame fixed gear drive train, 35mm kevlar belted tires, Brooks saddle, rack, fenders and 4 lights.
My bag is never real light but varies based on weather what I need for the day.

My list is much the same. I carry 2 water bottles, also a puncture repair kit and a bungee. In case of wet weather I carry a light nylon jacket and overpants. My work clothes are shirt and underwear - I keep shoes, trousers, belt and towel at work. I keep my U-lock at work, but I carry a cheap lighweight cable lock on my bike. I dont normally carry headlights but that will be changing this week as the evenings get darker.

Bike+water+rack+rack trunk (clothes, tools, spares)+lights+locks = 45 lbs.

You're missing the U-lock. Those things are HEAVY.

Yeah, I carry a Kryptonite NYC chain and a U-lock for the front wheel, water, rack, pannier, clothes, a book, fenders, 3 lights, and 6 amp battery. It's about 40 pounds.

But when I take most of that off and ride in the park... so sweet!
