Just got in from the fall forum ride. It was once again a super good weekend of riding, and hanging out with good people. Gastro and crew were pinnin it and and rollin on hardcore rides and super cool as usual.
Never is an amazing rider and a super guy to boot. He busted our chops to the top and then killed it to the bottom. He and Girlscout really hit it off and I kinda expected Girlscout to defect to Canada. There will many catch prases flying around for a while. I really have met some of the best people on these camp/ride trips and really hate to see all the guys go home. These are people I could hang out with every day and never get tired of their company. Flak is someone that all of you should meet at least once. He is a super funny guy. No Pheard,he didn't get pwned by anyone. The talk around camp was how good he was to come from a place with no really hard riding. He was very impressive. CurtisElwood was a great guy to hang aout and ride with as well. He rode the terrain well and he has mad camp fire skills. I've got a yard full of wet camping gear and a bunch of stuff to sort out so I'll post pics and a detailed ride report later. Just remember......It's all fun and games until someone sets the dog on fire!

Thanks for being such a great host 66. It was an awesome time all the way around. I was pretty conservative, but I was getting into a nice groove by the time we got in a rythm in DuPont. Those trails are very much my style. It was also cool to link up what I know about the rivers in the area to the trials we were doing. Your crew has mad skills. It was pretty sick watching the many micro-sessions that cropped up randomly.

Everyone was great to ride and hang with. Particularly Flak, who despite me calling him a ******, gave me his last burger. Thanks man!

I'll be back next year for sure. Wait, I'm still here! I'll probably ride at least one more day at DuPont this week between paddling.

You missed out on a good time at Asheville Pizza and Brewery with Gastro and co. I tink we got a pitcher of just about every beer they had on tap.

Keep on pushing those big bikes up hill. You're doing great!

Hey I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but i was wondering of any of you had heard from Rob? I last spoke to him on Saturday and he said he'd be coming home Sunday night...but he's not home yet, and i cant reach him. I'm getting worried.

He said something about a Yeti, a burning dog, and a death march. What does all this mean?

Gosh, I hope he's okay.

The last I saw of him, he was scratching flea bites and wandering erratically off into the forest with nothing but a jar of Nutella and a tire lever, mumbling something about needing a dh bike.

That was right after he impressed everyone with his mad cooking skillz...Auzzie burgers for everyone...hold the beets!

But seriously, let us know when you hear from him...he did say that he'd leave Cleveland for NC in a heartbeat...and we did check out some property for sale after a ride...either that or he may have had another run in with those bear hunters that told him he had a purty mouth.

It was hairy, but i made it back. Sorry im late, i doubled back to do the death march again, then wheelied the whole way back up the fire road to hit caney bottom one more time, all before dark no less! :p Seriously though, the drive back sucked. :(

Oh my dang i had a good time! Great trip, great people, great riding. White knuckle fun :D Cheers to 66 and girlscout for setting it all up. Don't believe that never can climb, we all rode the whole way up and had to wait for him to walk it. Gastro put us all to shame on the climbs, sometimes even doubling back down to let us all know we're doin great! before spinning back up. If any of you camp with curtis, don't make fun of his fire, he'll kill ya! ;) To be honest though, the dude did a great job with the lousy wet wood we had, props to him there. Was cool to ride with the re:cycles crew, smooooth, thats the best way to describe thier riding, except for the pinch flats ofcourse :)

I didn't eat dirt pheared. I skipped the dirt entirly when i went down at speed and torpedoed head first into a pile of brush and logs. :) This was after i picked a bad line on a skinny decent and nearly tumbled down the side of the hill

Free pizza - I wasn't sure how my hardtail would cope with Pisgah, but it did a fine job. Just drop the seat, get over that rear wheel and go! As girlscout says, us hardtailers still have 11 inches of travel in our legs :)

Glad to hear you're back alive Flak!

I was going to wait and do a serious review when I posted the pictures after I got back home but I may as well do it now...

First off I want to make note that even though I did say that mtnbiker66 was a jerk, I still got along with him really well so I must be a jerk too! ;)

Basically, the riding was amazing, it's so much fun hitting trails and seeing scenery that is so different from what I am used to. I don't remember the names of the trails but whatever we did on Saturday were my favorites...really rough rocky and rooty trails that you could just go flat out on...as long as no one was holding you up! ;) Hey guys...remember, Brian rode all the way up the 'death march' on his Coiler with the seat slammed and a 38T front ring! And thanks to Gastro for the encouragement while pushing the bike on the climbs...I really needed it!

The company was even better than the riding...it was great meeting and riding with everyone...I had an extremely fun time riding and hanging out around the fire with y'all...I think I'll be annoying my friends and co-workers with numerous classic sayings and catch phrases from this trip for the next while! Oh yeah...these guys can really ride too...oh my dang!

I want to thank mtnbiker66 and girlscout...they are great guys and deserve all of the recognition for putting an amazing weekend into action. They are great riders too and girlscout is still a punk kid ;) so he'll be crazy good in a few more years (plus he can throw a better spiral than I can)! If you ever need a guide in that area, hook up with 66...there's so much out there, he'll be able to help anyone have fun...newbie to expert. If you're going to be in the area, ride it...it's amazing country with great trails...errrr, actually, there's nothing there...it's crap...don't ever go out that way...enough leaf lookers out there anyway!

I was really impressed with Flak...and not just his accent and cooking skills...he did an amazing job killing the descents on his Rockhopper with 100mm of travel...especially considering he normally rides in Cleveland! Just don't ever burn yourself when he's around...he'll just laugh...insentive Auzzies! And don't ask him to show you his thong!

I'm glad that everyone had a great time.I know that we did. You guys made it a super weekend. The riding, the campfire, the Aussie rules football, you all did great. I want to hear all the funny stories you guy have,I'm sure I missed some of them.
Heres one.....
Girlscout was giving a riding lesson an how to correctly cross a creek when he sinks hub deep in a mud hole. I ride up to see him getting up covered in gunk. Now he knows why everyone was walking the bridge. Here's a pic of the creek. Flak missed the mud hole.

Still here in Asheville. I rode DuPont again the last two days after getting my bike fixed. The hanger needed to be bent back and the RD was toast. So, $100+ later, I'm back in business thanks to Bio Wheels. I can't remember the loop I rode yesterday, but it was the next trailhead down from Corn Mill Shoals. I looped down to the large lake, and back out along another small lake. Today, I did a quick afternoon loop on the Cedar Rock ??? trail and came down Big Rock. Slickrock is sweet and that 300 degree view from the top is incredible. Hopefully my favorite whitewater run will go tomorrow. I don't think my legs can take 5 days in a row of riding.

BTW, I camped at Cove Creek again last night. I was a little sketched out by the dude that was throwing large rocks in the creek upstream of camp just before dusk. I still camped anyway with no issues. Good thing 66 and Girlscout left a tent there all week to save the spot. I woke up to people less than 50 feet away in the next camp down and some trucks in the parking area. It's pretty popular apparently. Gonna stay with a friend here in Asheville tonight. Last night's high 20's temps were a bit chilly for my liking. Plus, all those hunters running around scare me.

If there's a Spring ride, I'll be there. I may be renting a FS trail rig so my double vision will be kept in check, though. BTW, I wonder how long it'll take for that hiking outfitter to see his Re:cycles tag. Did you guys ever tag the Never's Enduro before taking it back?
