This is the first in a series of short 2 minute clips from various parts on the course at the hilly hundred in Indiana this year.
There are some real good examples of coastdown of lowracer vs other style bikes and climbing ability.
We had near perfect weather this year.

Damn, thats impressive  . Makes me want a lowracer right now! The speeds you're getting down those hills are imnpressive too. Great Vid, what camera you using and how are you mounting it?

I love the sound of you riding the brakes to let that guy catch up in the last clip. Nice scenery - looks like a ride I need to do next year. Hopefully I'll have my new lowracer by then, assuming I can sell my baron.

You could sell it to me- how much is postage to Australia :D ?
On a serious note, last time I saw a Cobra lowracer on this site I decided to build one of similar design. I got as far as a jig and then stopped. Im feeling inclined to pull that jig out and have another crack at it after watching those vids- Thanx Lowracer1 :D

Nah. I barely have enough money to feed myself, let alone buy an recumbent :)

The camera I'm using is a 580 line sony bullet cam powered by a lithium power runner battery all hooked to an Archos AV-500 personal 30 gig dvr. It will store a total of 130 hours of video. I've got quite a few rides to download yet, plus break into smaller clips. I'll be posting some clips from our lowracer pack on dalmac as well.

I wish u-tube supported more resolution. The resolution off my setup is way better starting off before u-tube compresses the heck out of it

anyone know a better free site that will let me upload 2 minute clips and have better clip quality?

A short diversion from hilly hundred footage. This is from the 100 grand ride in June this past year.

woah. it's so weird to see the spokes look like they're not moving, yet see you pull away from a group.
How do you have the camera mounted to the fram yet have such a jitter-free image?

continental gp 4000 rear tire I suppose. Seriously...... I had 3 minutes before the ride started and I electrical taped it to the frame. hows that for high tech

Those are really great clips. I would like to save those for the dead of winter when the only riding I'm doing is on my trainer.

ok, so I'll have to admit that some recumbents can't climb. Or is it the engines.

What a laugh! The upright and the first recumbent both had flat tires.

I don't have a low racer, but I love it when I blow pass roadies on their DF bikes. Even the ones that pass me I can keep up with and I always notice them look back at me wondering how I do it.

Here's some footage of me riding behind Lowracer1, also at Hilly Hundred (6/9/06.)

Of course, no sane upright rider would want to switch to a bent; everyone knows bents can't do hills.

well, to be fair, it *IS* hard to climb hills with all those DFs shouting "on yer left!"
...er.....
Man, I've gotta ride with you guys again this next year sometime. BTW - I sold the baron this week and I have a TiCa on the way!

I think that was me yelling on the left over and over again. my voice was getting tired actually
Good video John. The video seemed quite choppy in parts though.

Yeah - it seemed to be the worst when we were going in and out of shade, although those high-speed flybys seemed to be a problem too. It wasn't on the original, so I guess it was caused by YouTube's compression routines.

Those are pretty amazing videos. Thanks for posting them.
The one with the recumbants on the hills shows someone who's not too experienced with his bike trying to get started uphill, and not realizing how critical that second push is on the pedals. Luckily, he didn't have too far to fall, and it was nice and wet where he hit.
The striking images from the fourth video shows the extreme difference in profiles presented by the recumbant rider and the upright riders. It was pretty nice to show recumbants beating the socks off the diamond frames.

Here's a short clip of me, my friend mark behind me, and another friend Bud (on the corsa) descending a hill. He unfortunately missed us climbing the sucker in the background, and the video doesn't even start till long after I've put on the brakes, but you can see this is a LONG steep hill. It's about 12 miles from my house so it makes for a great warmup, then sprints up and down it really get you going.
Funny how the hill looks so much shorter and flatter on video than when you're standing at the bottom of the sucker!

Oh there are some, but not too many, near where I live, but if you go to Austin and the surrounding countryside, you get serious elevation. Do a search for the jester hill climb for example. Fun stuff!

Man, that is impressive - great rolling terrain, and you were SMOKING them! Makes my highracer look like a slug, although the engine may have something to do with that! Neat vids!

Yeah, I'll check out the jester hill climb..........
Hey Greg, I think Blazing Pedals is trying to figure out an out of state ride to do next season....... trying to get bunches of lowracers going again.
If it works out, could have a pack of up to 10 lowracers on a week long tour.

I might consider traveling to a lowracer pack ride. I don't like tents, though. :)

I'm literally salivating at the thought of the start of the next biking season. I'm hitting the weights big time and I'm going to get LEAN. Then I'm going to sell parts of my body to afford a carbon streamliner body for my TiCa. Then I'm going to win some races!
