Commuting - WHERE is your blinky mounted?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's 10am, do you know where your blinky is?

I have a vertically oriented one on the seat post (best) and one on the lower part of my back pack that is horizonatally oriented. I am thinking about mounting one more to my left seat stay but am having heel strike issues with it.
Back of saddle bag, brighter than the two that I have attached to either side of my backpack.
One Planet Bike Super Flash on the seatpost currently.
I plan on adding another one on the left seat stay within the next few weeks.

one on my left seat stay, one on my right seat stay. The left one is about a foot and a half lower than the one on the right. I think the irregularity of it probably catches attention better than two at the top (essentially one big one)

Good things its multiple choice.
My primary blinkie (LD 1000) is mounted to my seattube. That is on there all the time.
When it gets darker I add a blinkie to my backpack/messenger bag and to my helmet.

YEP I Know,
I have a Cateye 1000 series and as backups a few of the Figherfighter LED flashers.
I have lost several Blinkies over the last few years (lousy cheap clips) I took a real Heavy duty stainless steel clothing clip/clamp off of a water activated flasher I ued while diving and monted it to the LD 1000.
I clamp the cateye to my carradice bag so it sits just right (not hooked to blinkie strap) I clamp it right to the lip of the main flap. with the heavy duty clamp I dont worry about it breaking/bouncing off my bag.
I just lost a small planet bike blinkie last thursday that was on my handlebar bag , must of bounced off .

I attached the clip to an 'L' bracket which I bolted onto the reflector mount at the back of my rack. This has the unexpected benefit of extending it out from underneath any load on the rack so it's always visible.

Mine is strapped to the back of the saddle rails with zip-ties. This puts it above most loads I carry on my rack, and above my saddle bag(Or, it did... on my other bike that had room for a bag under the saddle... my bag is currently strapped inside the rear triangle of the frame, vertically.)

Clipped to my seat bag
Two solid LEDs on the back of my Dinotte 3W helmet light, the 19 LED NR taillight attached to the rack, and 3 Cateye LD-500s attached to a dowel that is attached to the fender via zipties.
One on my helmet and one on my seatpost.
I like to show some width with my lights so I also have handlebar end mounted lights in addition to two center mounted (one on my seatbag and the other on my seatpost) blinkies.

I also wear shoes with reflective striping, pants and jacket with reflective piping and my helmet has a strap-on blinkie on the back that pivots to remain level.

I also have some arm/ankle mounted blinkies such as these from Planet Bike.

I currently clip my blinkie on the adjusting strap at the back of my helmet. With it getting darker earlier I need to get another for the rear rack.

One is mounted on each chainstay that are set to constant.
A much brighter one that blinks is attached to the end of my rack.
I only have on blinkie and several bikes so it moves around. On most of my bikes I put it on the seat post, but on my cargo bike it has to go on my backpack, which I either wear or put in the basket.

I have a 3-led on my helmet, the Cateye LD1000 on my trunk. I also have a white blinky on the front.

The lightman strobe on my beater bike is mounted to the OEM rear reflector bracket. Nice fit!
The seatpost mounted removable fender covered up the seatpost blinky so I put a ziptie between my Brooks seat hooks and have it mounted just behind and under the rear edge.

I have quite a few blinkies (surprise!) and move them around sometimes depending on what I'm doing.
On the mountain bike, I currently have a SuperFlash on the seatpost and would usually clip a second blinkie to the rear of my helmet, and maybe another on my waist. Riding the mountain bike to the off-road trails at 6PM can put me in significant traffic, so I also wear my reflective vest and reflective legbands.
On the touring bike, I have the Nova on the rear rack, a SuperFlash clipped to the rack bag, and it presently has a NiteRider Universal down on the underside of the chainstay too. I also have two amber Planet Bike BRT3 F's for the sides of the front panniers, and if I ever get brifters for it, then I'll put some bar-plug blinkies in the ends of the handlebars too.
On the road-racing bike, I have a SuperFlash on the seat tube and bar-plug blinkies in the ends of the handlebars, and if I were planning to be out after dark, I'd clip one to the rear of my helmet as well.

My touring bike has one TL-LD1000 permanently mounted behind the rear rack and two (one TL-LD-1000 and one BLT Rear Super Doppler) mounted on the seatpost. My frame and seatpost are high enough that both seatpost taillights are visible even with cargo on the rear rack. That's, I guess, one advantage of a 25" frame with 120 mm of exposed seatpost.
On the tandem, I have two TL-LD1000 permanently mounted behind the rear rack. The 18" rear seattube doesn't allow much in terms of seatpost-mounted lights.

I have yet to see in actual use on the road a blinkie attached to clothing/bags that was anywhere near as effective as it could be.

Normally one on my saddlebag, the other on the back of my pannier rack (using a mount that I built from spare parts. :) ). I have the flexibility to move one or both depending on what I'm carrying at the time.

I've got a big Cateye [400?] on my seatpost and a clip-on attached to my bag. I usually just run the seatpost one unless it's wet/snowing out.

Rear: Cateye LD1000 mounted to the rear rack, usually in solid mode. Cateye LD600 permanently fixed to the back of the seat bag in blink mode. Frog Knob in blink mode attached to the back of my helmet.
Front: Cateye EL400 in flash mode attached to the left side of the helmet. Cateye EL530 attached to the handlebar. I just picked up one of those 52 LED flashlights off Ebay that have been discussed here recently. It's definitely brighter than the EL530 indoors. As soon as I get a chance to I'll try to shoot some comparison photos out on a lit city street.

there are two amber flashers on the fork (bought on sale for $.99!), a tl-ld1000 on the seat post, and two planet bike brt 7s on the seatstays.
if i have the pannier on i wear the left-side brt 7 on my arm, until i get around to sewing a loop onto my pannier.
when i ride the bike i have all the blinkies flashing spastically, and my tiresparx going, although the tiresparx batteries are almost totally dead.

Rack. With 6mm bolts!! If we all had a .10 for every lost blinky....
Either rattle off, get grabbed by tree branch, or lifted to the blinky netherworld.

Seatpost, but I keep meaning to get another one to put on my left pannier. Just need to get to the LBS...
My NR blinky is on the left seatstay just under the seatpost, my little 5 LED blinky is on the back of the saddle.

How did you get the tire/rims to reflect like that? Did you tape the rims with reflecto tape? Or is it the rims just natually reflecting or the tires have reflecting material on it?
Zero_Enigma
No blinkies, just good flat SAE reflectors and non-blinking dyno-driven taillights.

When I was using lights that cost $1-5 each, I didn't worry too much about losing them. However, when I got this ultra-bright, Serfas blinkie for $30, I took steps to keep it in place...
I tossed the clip that came with it and then drilled a small hole in the back for the zinc-plated angle support. Just in case that fails, I have attached a safety cable.
(This picture was taken from under my seat, pointing back toward the rear of my rack.)

thanks sherpa93, hehe :)
zero enigma: i have schwalbe marathon tires on my bike, and they (and some other brands and models) come with reflective accents on the sidewalls! that was one of the reasons i bought them. i saw a picture of someone's bike on the internet, and he had tires that lit up like that so i had to get them ASAP!

2 - Helmet and Bag on back.
I voted Helmet but I usually have another one on the back of my saddle bag (tool bag under the saddle).
How did you get the tire/rims to reflect like that? Did you tape the rims with reflecto tape? Or is it the rims just natually reflecting or the tires have reflecting material on it?
Zero_Enigma My guess is that those are Schwalbe tires. Schwalbes have a reflective side wall.
Some Schwalbe models have the reflective strip, some don't.
I have two blinkies: one attached to the rack, one attached to the seat post. Anyone else have problems with rack mounted blinkie's side visibility? My panniers are attached way back to the extent they block the blinkie somewhat from side. Hence the seat post mounted blinkie, plus it's nice to have a backup.
--J
To all you multi-blinkie maniacs:
How do you keep them syncronized? ;)
I only have one on my seat-post, so I dont have a syncronization problem.

It's attached to the stays on my saddle. I have zip ties on each stay, and I run them through the blinkie bracket that's designed to go aroung the seat post. It's then sandwiched between my seat bag and saddle.
