I have 600 dollars to spend on a MTB.
I have a choise of either a giant or a 07 mongoose tyax elite,
Just wanted to get opinions on what would be the best for me.
It needs to be strong and be able to handle a little bit of off road riding.

I hear that Mongoose is starting to get there reputation back up as being a quality company, but I'd go with a good trusted company like Giant.

just to give a bit more info on the giant.....its a giant rincon 2007 model

there are a couple 07' Konas in that price range, thats the way I'd go. Out of the two you listed, I'd go Giant no doubt.

I would say Gaint.

I think alot of people here are going to say that.

Giant is a much more reputable bike company.

I don't know that much about Mongoose, but I do see them sold at Toys R Us and Costco, if that's any indication as to how good the bike is.

The Mongoose bikes that are sold at big box stores are POS's. I have also heard rumors that they aren't Mongoose bikes but just badged as a Mongoose bike. The Mongoose bikes sold at LBS are wonderful bikes and a wonderful buy for the money. I have a 06 Mongoose Black Diamond Triple that I got from my LBS and I love that bike. The bike is spec'ed out quite well and couldn't think of a bike I would rather have right now.
