Southern California - Do you like riding in a less-than-ideal conditions? (pics)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Man, it was foggy yesterday! 10 minutes into the ride I was soaking wet.
I love riding in "bad" weather! There's nobody else on the path! Wussies!

Whenever I saw a figure in the distance I always thought "It could be a zombie. Or a cyclist. Or worse, a zombie cyclist."

To the right is a creek/storm drain. A pretty long fall.

We had to deal with that on PCH with cars zooming by yesterday!

Then you would have loved the Baldy ride we did last weekend...:D
I hate inclement weather when I'm on a bike. And I wouldn't want to encounter a zombie cyclist.
We have fog here in a circular area of about 3-4 miles around South san francisco, that gets that bad if not worse. Doesn't it suck?
ack fog!!

I guess I'm not 'core, because I don't like the wet stuff. Other than that, I'm game. Although I would choose extreme heat over the frosty.

Hey, ShakeNbake, what trail is that? SGVBT?
Nope, that's Ballona Creek.
That morning I rode down to Redondo Beach. On my way back a good 100 feet of the path on the beach was flooded by the tide(it wasn't when I passed there earlier). And it was pretty deep, I saw a guy try to ride thru it and he completely dipped his crank in salt water:eek: .
Not wanting to do that, I dismount and carry my bike while jogging thru the sand, CX style. That was a pretty good exercise.:D

See and I'm the opposite. Heat just drains it all out of me. And don't get me started on headwinds. Yeah, that would be my two most dreaded riding conditions. 30mph headwinds in 100 degree weather!

Let me describe my body. I have the torso of Tony Soprano and the limbs of a Ukrainian supermodel. So yeah, not that pretty.
Oh, I forgot, big thumbs up to Crank Bros. Candy Pedals! After going thru the sand, it still engages smoothly and no slips/extra movement at all.

I would rather take the cold over extreme heat. You can keep layering yourself when cold but you can only get down to your skin when hot and sometimes that still ain't enough.

+1 [EDIT: +2]
If I have appropriate clothing, cold isn't too big an issue. The excess clothing slows me down a bit, but that's okay. Not much one can do about extreme heat.

Yes, and without hurting his feelings or starting a heated debate...I personally wish we didn't. When I got on this forum, I assumed it was full of adults (with healthy senses of humor) and that any children (under the age of 18) would be monitored by their parents who are responsible for them (not me).
Sorry, but that is my honest opinion...:o
Now, back to weather conditions...

but the rules of the forums allow kids 13 and older.... it's not advertised as an adult site....
as for monitoring kids... yes... i agree that it's his parent's responsibility and he obviously has NO supervision..
are you aware that there are SEVERAL moderators who are under 18? yes.... joe trusts them to be mods!

I hate the wind, too, unless it happens to be a tailwind. :D Next time at Palm Springs, they should reset all those big fans in the surrounding hilltops to blow the air in a circular fashion so that we can have tailwinds all the way around the loop. ;)

Cali, I really like you (although I've never met you in person), so nothing personal - but, no, I NEVER expect kids to be on a site where adults post. Have you (or Joe) read some of the nasty, mean things some of those guys say to one another in the Road Forum?? In my opinion, again, cyclists being nasty and belittling is far worse than sexual inneundo or joking (I know, some could argue, and I realize I probably offend a few...but I would never be outright vulgar or cruel or belittling to another person posting on here and I can't please everyone as my brand of off-color humor doesn't always appeal). Your point is valid (and respected), but I simply will not allow myself to be censored by a 13 year old. If Joe (for arguments sake, not to drag the poor guy into it) wants me off of here based on my posts and how they may be inappropriate for children, then he may ask me to leave. But I'm not willing to be censored by the thought that someone under the age of 18 without adult supervision is reading what I'm writing. Besides, a better debate - why doesn't Joe start a cycling forum for teenagers?? Maximan might actually meet people his own age. He's a sweet young man who clearly enjoys being on here, but personally, I will never be on a ride with him UNLESS his mom or dad are with him. So, why would it not be healthier, better, etc. for him to be on a site with his own peers?
Sorry, ShakeNBake, I'm going to knock it off now. I didn't mean to turn this thread into this, but this has been a thought of mine (and a bit of a thorn in my left foot) for awhile because I am very aware of that young boy's presence and I've wondered where his parents are.
