Mountain Biking - Seat Post Size 27mm or 27.2mm?

I am looking for a seat post. My old one looks like a 27mm, but I see more 27.2mm in the market than 27mm? Can I put a 27.2mm in a 27mm frame?:rolleyes:

Both my bike take 27mm. I wish they could have speced a 27.2, but no, you need to use 27.0 in that frame.

Isn't that what Dremel tools and Health insurance are for?

do yourself a favor and have a shop measure it for you.

I've done this before - - on accident - - and I don't recommend it. The frame was sized for a 27.0. I bought a 27.2 and proceeded to have to "turn" it down rotating it on my belt sander and with emery cloth. What I wouldn't have given for access to a nice little South Bend lathe! What a thankless chore.

The trouble with this is I also removed the anodizing (yes, even when it's raw color, it has been anodized); so now a particularly unattractive, dark, discolored almost-silver post. Hunt down a 27.0 and you'll be happier.

I'll trade you my 27.0 for your 27.2. Mine's nothing special at all though.

Sorry, I can't trade. I made a big mistake and cut my post. That is the reason why I need to buy a new one now. I know and I will never cut any seat post again. :mad:

If you follow this advice and your frame is still underwarranty. Your frame will no longer be under warranty. In cases like this Dremel tools are a very bad thing.
