What kind of road racing opportunities are there for old slow guys in the Baltimore Md. area? I am 55 and used to ride various citizen races and also did some mtb racing. I wonder what there is that might be within my reach in the area. Time trials or citizen road races maybe?

I am thinking about next year as I am about to have some fairly major surgery that will probably pretty much end my season for this year.

There's some information on racing and non-racing group rides over at the Baltimore Bicycling Club's webpage:

Thanks. I had already seen that site, but there isn't much racing related stuff there. Maybe it is because there aren't any races on the schedule this time of year. I have been on group rides with the BBC in the past. They have a busy ride schedule, but from what I see on the web page nothing much in the way of a race schedule. Am I missing something?

FWIW: It looks like the Chesapeake Wheelmen might be a good source of info on local racing. They maintain a calendar that seems to cover the area races pretty well.

It isn't clear to me what events might be suitable for a 55 year old rider who has only been back to riding somewhat seriously since August. I am hoping to start out with some time trials and branch out from there. I imagine that right now I would probably finish a distant last in most events. On my best day I do a fairly hilly 25 mile solo ride east of Loch Raven at 17.1 mph. Some days I am a good bit slower.

I have some fairly major surgey in a little over a week, but hope to be doing some mileage on the weekends and weekday roller work soon after. I hope that by Spring I will have lost another 15 or 20 pounds and be at a better fitness level.

Pete

There are plenty of USCF racing clubs in the Baltimore area. If you are not licensed and want to get into the action, obtain a license here: http://www.usacycling.org/

This site has the district racing calander: http://www.mabra.org/ with links to clubs

This site has races by region and has on-line registration: http://www.bikereg.com/

Here is a site with lots of races in PA: http://www.redroseraces.com/

Here is my club: http://temp15asp2.aquesthosting.com/lateralstressvelocom/

hope that helps!
