Classic & Vintage - Schwinn Varsity.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Would it be worth purchasing one of these at a second hand store and restoring it?
Or is doing such not a worthy project?
I know the Varsity's were a very popular and common bike. But are they worth restoring?
In my opinion, only the pre-70s models are worth anything with the 1960 model possibly being the most collectible.
Try another resale shop...

do what I did... fix it up, then add baskets all around and make it the grocery getter!
N_C,
In the "whats Classic?" Thread, (or whatever its called). I posted
pics of a restored Varsity, check it out.
Yeah I'd say its a worthy project, I mean how many of us
started of bikes like the Varsity?

Frankly, even in perfect shape, a Schwinn Varsity is worth no more than $20. Restoring one would be a waste of money, and it will likely never be worth more, since they are as common as dirt. Still, they are a good heavy-duty (emphasis on the word "heavy") bike, one that is unlikely to be stolen. Sounds like a better candidate for an "around-town beater".
