What route should be taken to cross the entire country.
Someone is asking me about a North to south trip.
I'm thinking Manatoba to Mexico .... ElPaso TX, or Winsor ON to Nuevo Laredo.
I'd sugest the Mississippi valley. Are there side roads along the river?
The rails to trails is almost complete in Ohio. Any LONG trails elsewhere?

Adventurecycling.org has multiple north-south and east-west bike routes that are well researched. For a self supported trip, they are definitely worth looking at.

There's also the Mississippi River Trail (www.mississippirivertrail.org), which is sort of parallel to the similar adventurecycling route.

This looks similar to the pactour.com trips. It might be a good deal if your time is limited and you can keep up with the long miles day after day. Note that there's only one rest day on the trip so you had better be in shape.

The ride leader, Mike Munk, puts out a daily ride report for all his rides. Here's the America Fast South 2006 ride.

This should give you an idea of what the ride is like. If you back off a few links back to BamaCyclist.com, Mike has a few training tips as well.
