My girlfriend wants to know what the biggest tire she can fit on her crosscheck. Anyone know?

I've seen as big as a 42c.

I'm rolling along on a pair of IRC Mythos 700x42 right now

Well, they say they can fit 47c with fenders. I'm wondering what the LARGEST size of tire would work.

Well then, we've got definitive evidence a 42 will work and the manufacturers stated a 45 (not 47) will. So I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "Somewhere between 42 and 45, possibly even a bit bigger depending upon the tire tread, the type of rim and where you've got the wheel set in the dropout"

You could always just email Surly with your question, maybe even ask them about a particular tire. They're a great bunch of guys, real bike fanatics.

Tangent: How do you like those tires? I was thinking of buying some when my michelin mud2s wear out.

Bit of road buzz at slow speeds (<5 mph) but what would you expect when ridden on pavement. I've got about 600+ miles on em so far, mix of trails, gravel and asphalt with no problems.

Thanks. How are they in the dirt? Looks like they have a nice big footprint.

My "dirt" experience is limited to trails (ATV routes) and dirt roads (muddy and dry). No problems. The bike in question is fixed gear.
