I miss understood. I see, you're saying you're now less anti-bike-facility then you were before, and you're more anti-sloppy-bike-facility then you were before. Right?
I want a lawyer.
:D
You know, buddy, once in a while you should relax!

You have got some ego. Can't learn anything from anyone, because you know it all already. You are a piece of work.
Took the words right out of my mouth!

Since you started reading this forum, do you ride any differently than you did before?
Yes. Well, no. Oh alright yes.
I was trained in how to ride in traffic many, many years ago. Twenty years ago now that I think about it. Not much has changed in the how-to in twenty years. However, even armed with the knowledge, my natural inclination over the years has been to creep back to the curb line. So, reading the A&S forum has been something of a kick in the ass to pay more attention to where I position myself in the road.
If so, were changes in your riding influenced by what you read here, and, in particular, how much if any from posts written by yours truly?
(just wondering if I'm totally wasting my time here, as some keep telling me, or what)
Thanks!
I have read the DLLP posts and have followed some of the epic battles. I have thought about DLLP as it would be applied on my reqular routes. I really can't see that it would be useful in any of the circumstances that I encounter on a regular basis.
So, from the point of view of getting people to think about DLLP, I don't think you are wasting your time. But, I suspect that most people will conclude that DLLP is not going to be useful to them. So, from the point of view of actually getting some traction for DLLP you might be wasting your time.

Cyclists have been using these same basic techniques for sharing the roads with other vehicles for nearly 100 years...just because HH has a bug up his butt about his pet theory doesn't make it unique, innovative, useful, or true.
It's called 'branding'. HH likes to pass these things off as his own, or his hero Forrester's, to advance his own political agenda, write a book and be a big shot.

I've taken to riding in the opposite lane to maximise my visibility to oncoming traffic.

As poorly as he writes, I don't think a book deal is in his future.
He could, however, find success as an acerbic blogger (witness the response rate to his rants here in A&S).

HH is gone now, guys. He said good-bye in another thread. BF A&S will be totally boring now.
no way. he'll never be able to stay away for long. He said "at least for a few weeks"...he's coming back. he's got lots more proseltyzin' to do.

This thread is a good example typical HH bait and switch. First he asks if 'reading BF' has caused you to ride further left, then if 'reading BF' has caused you to ride safer, but then, it becomes all about him and his views, as if he IS BF.
Reading BF hasn't caused me to change my riding style, but it has given me great insights into new equipment and applications of that equipment that does make my riding safer and more enjoyable.
Reading HH has just given me some laughs, material to make other people laugh and hopefully some of my comments have acted as a counterweight to his wacky theories and passing himself off as the ultimate uber expert and authority. I don't know everything about anything, but I know a political zealot trying to advance an agenda when I see one.

I answered twice in this - once to say, yes I ride further left and later to say I have always been vehicular, but I have fined tuned based on discussion on this forum. My riding futher left is a fine tuning, there are two cases I want to share:
1. Making a RT in a RTOL. I used to use just inside right tire track of RTOL when doing this, but found some drivers would still try and pass me while I was turning (they would drive over left lane line to do this). This was potentially dangerous as I was not always turning sharp into curb side of x-street lane, but a bit wider into center of x-street lane. I learned here in BF to stay left biased (on left tire track) when using a RTOL. This prevented the 'pass me while I'm turning' problem.
2. The other is a case where a 3-lane arterial turned into a 2-lane, after a major intersection. 95% of folks using the outside lane were turning right. I used to always line up with them (left biased in lane) and then go straight and merge left across intersection in the 100' of distance (where there were also several driveway entrances) where the outside lane ended. Now I learned from experience to use middle lane prior to intersection. This eliminated the merging issue immediately after the intersection when traffic was dense and accerlating hard. It turn out this is how I drive a car thru this intersection (and most others do to) avoiding the right lane that by default 95% of folks use as a RTOL as the lane ends across the intersection.

No more HH?? Say it isn't so!!
Seriously: through all the petty fighting and name calling and puffed up egos, I've learned a ton of great tips and techniques from these threads. Including from HH. And the Ratliffs, and genec, and diane, and bek, and chipcom has helped teach me the art of the grump. Etc. I'll be sad if one of the key players in the spats has bid adieu.

From "You don't default to the travel lanes" thread, post #280:
I think I've done all the good I can around here, at least for a while. I'm outta here, for at least a few weeks.
Have fun.

I find that not only am I riding further left; I'm also hugging trees, voting for Democrats, I think Al Gore won the election, and I've lately begun considering purchase of an overpriced hybrid car. :D

I have been around here for a while. Although I find the A&S section interesting, it has done little to influence my riding style.
