So I was looking at Jonathan Page's Mipozo and Lars Boom's C-50 (@cyclocrossworld.com) and I noticed that they don't seem to be using a front cable hanger, instead running the front brake cable down vertically from the handlebar.

Anyone know about this setup? Is there a pulley involved? Can't see too much from the pics. Any info is appreciated.

I'm gonna wager they have a hanger/pulley on the stem. I have an old Salsa stem with one built in, wouldn't be to much of a stretch to come up with something that you could afix beneath your stem's pop-top.

They use a hanger fixed between the stem and the stem frontplate. It is made by Spooky.

So I guess the deal is to mount a rear brake cable hanger to one of the pinch bolts on the stem. These guys were getting them from nashbar apparently.

That would seem to eliminate the option of shouldering the bike with your arm wrapped around the headtube? I don't do that anyway, because my arms are short, but don't most people do that?

Well, didn't know it is a Spooky product until I called them to order a carbon single ring kit. The guy on the phone told me about the devise. They provide brakes, carbon rings and these cable hangers for the Rabobank pros. So here in Holland they are easy to get. I will call them on Monday and ask them which shops and/or distributors they supply in the States. Give me a few days :)

Jeremy, the specific hanger on Boom's bike is made by Spooky. But off course I agree that other solutions work just as well.

Pipo: Spooky is distributed in Europe by CODAGEX (www.codagex.com) but unfortunately their complete Spooky stock for the 2006/2007 season is sold out. All they have left are alu brakes. The hangers, chain guards and carbon brakes will not be available until August 2007. This was confirmed when I called the manufacturer of Spooky products, Harrie van der Burgt Techniek. Nobody could tell me who distributes Spooky products in the States.

Well of course I could use a nashbar rear hanger, but if I could get a cool Spooky one (which I can't it seems, thanks for trying Timo) that Lars Boom uses why not? Yeah, yeah I realize that mild hero worship isn't cool, but I'm man enough to admit it :-)
