I finally got computer access in my hospital room, so I had to post.

My hometown paper (not the city I live in) wrote an article on it http://www.morganton.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=MNH/MGArticle/MNH_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149191031974

I'm getting transferred to a rehab program to get me back to functiional tomorrow.

At least I've now got some funky scars! :D

Holy moses! VERY VERY glad you survived that one. Christ.. I hope they get the damn driver. Its good that they specifically said you ran lights and all.

Having survived a high speed accident today, I'm glad I walked away.

So glad you're OK. Can you tell us what happened or what we can learn from your misfortune?

Wow! Glad you're alive, keep in there!

About the cops not doing anything, we should all write emails to his local police dept. complaining about the lack of attention to bike/car related accidents or something.

Jeeze, a torn aorta. My stubbed big toe can't compete with that. Hope they don't mock your pain in rehab by making you ride one of those stationary bicycles with a leather strap around the front wheel.

Torn aorta...that is SERIOUS stuff. Thank the cycling gods that the cager didn't get the best of you. Good luck eventually getting back in the saddle.

Here's to a speedy recovery so you can be on your bike again in no time. As for the errant driver, karma will catch up to him eventually.

Holy carp! I'm glad to read that you're coming along well, especially after such a wicked injury. I worked in a CT-OR for a while, and I've seen what a torn aorta looks like. If they gave you a Dacron wrap, know that now it's about as strong as those Flexsteel hoses on a gas pump; When you're back in the saddle, you'll be able to push it that much more. :)

Holy ****! That's one hell of a rough ride you must've had... I'm really glad to know you're on the mend and obviously able to post, etc.

I loved reading your moms words in the article, she seemed incredibly supportive and proud of your cycling and fit/active lifestyle - good for you, man. I also liked how the "safe" and mention of the lights was included, important notes, I think.

I hope they're able to catch the bar steward that did this.

Get well soon, I wish you the very best in recovery!
